Speedo failed

My speedo packed up this morning, but the scary part was the suddenly heavy steering!

 

Any ideas on what has failed?

    Strong possibility it's the speed senor on the gearbox, or maybe the kmh/mph conversion box if it's an import.

    exactly the same happened to me. disconnected the speedo converter and everything is fine.

    Yeah!

    If the powersteering goes wonkey, its the speed sensor or KPH/MPH converter.

    If the steering is OK its the dial its self.
