List of parts to change on a 10 year old Z?

I'm trying to get a list together of the parts that are 'recommended' for change at the 10 year mark(my Z is 12).

So far I've got(inc Courtesy Part No's):

Fuel Pump 17042-00002

Idler Pulley 13077-00001

Secondary Tensioner 13077-00002

Not a very big list at the moment.

So these are parts that I think could be changed:

Driveshaft supports/mounts

Engine mounts

Wheel bearings/hubs?

Door/Window rubbers

General bushes

...what others? Engine internals etc?

I havent listed things that normally get done in the 60k service(PVC valves, water pump etc).

So if anyone has any other suggestions on what should be changed at the 10 year+ mark please let me know.

Thanks,

Joking aside, I think this subject is quite an important one and would be a handy check list for someone looking for a new Z.

I know I have only said raditor cap so far but does anyone else have any ideas?

Maybe original rear spoilers seeing as they turn in to sponges.

Replace ALL water coolant pipes wink.gif.

Speed Sensor - (is this the one on the gearbox that can cause power steering and HICAS to go screwy?)

Throttle position sensor - (if in bad condition)

Cos, the rear spoiler can be changed for a lighter fiberglass version which is about £124-£200 I think. Like you said its a good idea when the std rubber ones go south.

PTU,should be changed after about 8 years depending if you have had bonnet scoops to remove the heat.

i would say to anyone then get some scoops as it will help prolong most problem parts which are all affected by the heat!

steering rack will be on its way out by 10 yrs

at least 1 of the window motors will have gone on ya car in 10 yrs

aircon should of been refilled well bfr 10 yrs

brake calipers will need sorting by 10 yrs

most electrical sensors should be on their way south and harness too

fooooooooooook i think we best just get a new car its gonna cost us a mint

An old saying - IF IT AINT BROKE DON'T FIX IT!!!!

Why replace a sensor if it is working ok? By fiddling you risk breaking something. Even worse, new parts can be faulty too wink.gif

Just do the cambelt (and associated parts, water pump etc), PCV valves, water hoses as macca says, gearbox flush, diff flush, maybe even PS flush if you really want to. IF you are feeling REALLY confident, replace the EGR valve or remove it completely - after this kind of mileage/age it tends to not work anymore. AIV valves could also be removed - at least drain them.

Can't think of anything else but like I said - don't just replace a sensor because some of them wear prematurely wink.gif

Only exception to this would be the oil pressure sender wink.gif

Covered 'Reliability' as part of my engineering course at Uni and heard a funny story about the RAF. Apparently they change windscreens/canopies on jets because their statistics say they fail after XXX hours use.

Uuuhhhhh ?? ? ??

There goes our tax money.

I agree with leaving it alone if you can.

BTW - whats this about rad caps and coolant hoses? Is it a known problem?

My top hose let go in a BIG WAY at the weekend and I was wondering whether the rad cap had failed to release xs pressure, or if the hose was just weak.

Cheers

I am in Navy (Submariner) we change loads techno/mechnical bits...because they might "statiscally" fail + we are always dismantling and rebuilding perfectly fine pieces of kit....nightmare....

Steering rack bushes just got picked up on my MOT as adviser
