we have here, 1 laptop and one desktop. both on win7 and both on wireless. the desktop has no bother at all, but the laptop takes around 4 minutes to load google! let alone another site!

do any of you knowledgeable types have any ideas on something i may have missed?

many thanks in advance :-)

one thing to add is that the laptop works fine at other places, like at my mates house or at work????

Is the laptop fully booted up when you start the browser?

Are you using the same browser on both?

what browser are you using?

is it an old laptop?

no difference :-( ive also tried a wired connection and is the same :-( ??

What does it perform like if the desktop is switched of? Any different?

What model of router do you have/whos your internet/router provided by?

If you go into device manager, and into the properties of the wireless network card on the laptop you might find that its set at a specific wireless channel rather than to automatic. There is a chance that the channel its set to is different to the router, causing poor performance. However the other option is that if you have a wireless phone, or a neighbour has a router on the same channel etc they can cause interferance, poor performance etc. Some ideas to check anyway.

on the other hand, your router could be set to a specific wireless channel which the laptop doesnt agree with.

Weird that it works well elsewhere though.

Hmmm

So to recap,....

It performs slowly both wired and wirelessly. and also irrespective of whether the pc is on wireless. ??

However it performs ok at other peoples houses...??

One would suggest then that it is related specifically to your network i would check whether its using a static ip or dynamic ip address and also just to double check your network is secure ??

set to auto as long as im looking in the right place. and ive got the laptop sat on the desk next to the desktop, so i would imagine that any interfearence would effect both machines?

really runnig out of ideas here :-( the fact that it is the same on a wired connection puzzles me

thanks for everyones replies

if its the same on a wired connection then you can at least eliminate it being a wireless network issue.....

That said if it works at other peoples houses........???

Its a toughy without being there to try things....

If it was me i would delete the network from the laptop and start again set up a new connection and see if that fixes it.....

after that you pretty much reach my limits of knowledge, sorry mate.

And here is where digitel ask you to turn the router on and off again LOL .....

sorry mate..

tried that lol!

****ing digitel lol!

You say the laptop is only a few months old.. Has it always been like this or suddenly started doing it ?

It must be something to do with the config between your laptop and the router (wired and wi-fi)

Check the network data transfer in task manager to see if something else (virus?) is hogging all its network bandwidth instead ?

What if you user a proper browser like IE? ;)

Using the words "proper browser"and "IE" in the same sentence is a contradiction.

Change the wireless channel on the router. See what it is set at and try the other end of the scale. If its on auto, try 12 then try 2 then 7. See if it makes any difference with the different channels.
