High revving

Any ideas here?

The car is revving at over 2000.

Yesterday I changed the balance bar. Could this have a similar effect? Also changed the cruise control unit

Take the plug off the idle air control valve, start up the engine, then plug it back in, the ecu should then take over the tick over. You may need to adjust the idle screw on the side of the valve if the revs dont sit back down.

back right hand side of the plenum, can be a pain to get to with all the wires in the way, there are 2 connectors one blue one yellow iirc, im certain its the yellow one at a right angle to the battery you need. if not its the blue one lol or may even be black, as ive had a black one before. but you will know what i mean when you look, the connectors sit pointing towards the drivers side.

But should that have changed from changing the balance bar?

I have noticed the think pipe at the back of the engine that comes off the balance bar has a split. Could that be the fault?

most likely if its leaking air in as that S shaped pipe goes to the idle air valve.

Actually I don't have one. It's the other pipe I have. Is it worth just using silicone hoses like a lot of the rest of the pipes do do I need to find another one of these pipes with the S in it?

Right, I hav changed the S shaped pipes, the revs then went down to around 1k which I though great. Now it just changes it's mind alot. Sometimes it revs at 2k, sometimes 1.5k and other times 1k but usually higher.

Anyone got any ideas??? Thinking if I change the screw down, then when the car wants to rev lower it's be too low.

Could changing the cruise control unit do this? Or the balance bar?

Anyone help?

I would check the balance bar is seated correctly and not drawing in air.......then check the cable adjustment on the cruise control.as these are the two components you have worked on thats probably where the fault lies :)

I tried the throttle cables and they seem about right, will do a leak test when I get the chance. Shame I can't do it with smoke to see where theirs an air leak if there is one.

Out of interest, should the balance bar have sealant or anything?

nope o rings will suffice as long as serviceable

You can, just tape a couple of standard plumbers smoke matches to the inside of your leak tester bung, light them, shove it in, wait a few seconds then pressurise away...
