Hi, looking for a few peoples opinion and bit of advice really as I really can't decide what to do.

I've been debating this for a few weeks now as I've just changed career so things are going to be a bit tight for a little while and as much as I hate to admit it running the zed regularly isn't the most sensible thing atm. I've also had to retrain as part of the change so I have the course fee's to pay which atm I'm paying monthly and it's more than affordable I'm not one who likes owing money so if I we're to sell up and get something a little cheaper for a while then I could just pay it straight off.

That said while it all makes perfect sense I really haven't got the heart to do it. I love the car too much, it'd like a baby and I love all the attention it gets too. Still it's no fun having it and having it sat on the drive for the next few months.

The other issue is it's not really the best time of year to be looking at selling a zed and tbf I can't even figure out what I'd ask for it. I'd want a quick sale and I'd hope £6k would be reasonable for one but is that realistic? not knowing a figure atm doesn't make things and easier I'm afraid :l

Really at a loss here, that age old battle of mind vs heart, what would you do?

Heart over head every time for me mate.

I look at it this way, in a few months time will you regret not having driven it but still have it sitting in the garage.

Or, in a few months time will you regret not having it at all? (Tough call)

Really is getting harder to find clean examples today.

I'm on my 4th one and still kick myself for selling my 1st pearl white one for financial reasons...non have even come close.

If it is possible to struggle though for a few months then i'd definately keep it. Its only ever going to be an increasing valuable example and like you say £6k at this time of yr is a big ask.

Cracking Zed to!! :)

ye thats the thing, I know I would miss it and nothing else would compare fun wise. it would be ok to say i could alway buy another one at a later date too but without sounding big headed or anything i'm sure i'd really struggle to find one what came even close for me.

my other concern at 23 is insurance aswell, my brother's premium has just doubled over the last year on a mg zt

decisions like this absolutely suck!!

If you don't need the money don't sell it, but if you do need the money sell it....as for running costs/insurance etc, they're going to increase regardless of what you drive so definately something to consider but shouldn't be the defining factor.

If you think £6k is a fair price then list it on pistonheads at £6k and then potential buyers will confirm whether £6k is too much and adjust the price accordingly. There would inevitably be regrets if you did sell it but let's be realistic, there's a very good chance that the person who did buy it would in all probability post a similar thread in the next few years facing exactly the same dilemma. By that stage the new owner would have put a couple more quid into the car and if you're in a better position financially at that stage, then you can buy it back

ask yourself, would it be an impulse sale? If the answer to that is yes then put a cover over it and don't sell, however if the answer is no and it's a sale out of necessity then you'd be in a better frame of mind to make a sensible call

Are you going to be able to enjoy it this Summer or is will your new career prevent that?

It wont sell quickly really unless somebody wants your car and is waiting for it to come up. (If that makes sence).

Id put a test ad up, maybe a bit more than you want, and see what happens.

Ive told myself i wouldn't keep a car if i cant properly afford it.

Its worth 6K all day long. but i think in todays climate i would say about 4K and i doubt it would be a quick sale :(

I appreciate everyone's advice but that really hits the nail on the head for me and puts it in perspective.

I'm unsure how I'd be fixed for summer and my new career might not necessarily restrict it, by then I could even be better off than I am now but as I'll be working partially self employed there are no guarantees.

Bad time to sell and I doubt it would be a quick sell unless its a real bargain. Keep it and budget some other way.

If you have a location to keep it off road and safe, put a cover over it sorn it and it wont cost you a penny, then see how things pan out. get a cheap run around in the mean time, once things improve get her back on the road so you can enjoy it.

i have to say i agree with vodjkashots. i mean you only brought that car 6 months ago? and in my opinion made it look much better and much better resale wise. it would be awful to sell it for even less now than you paid the asking price for this car a year ago was pretty high. i would sit on it store it someplace dry and clean, if it sitrs there foir two years so be it. your gonna loose mopney selling it regret selling it buy another and end up sending twice as much getting you back where you started. im not much older than you (25) and i know how annoying insurance can be, but honestly mine has come down loads since i was 23 its less than half, and im paying more for my insurance than i could because i want the ability to drive other vechiles. so it limits the compaqnies i can go with. even if youve gotta rent a garage for 50-100 a month it wouldnt be the end of the world and you get to keep it. it is just a car at the end of the day but i would hate if your like most people for you to do exactly what most of us do sell a car then regret it buy another and end up throwing thousands down the pan to end up exactly where you started.

Hiya bud,

I too have only owned my Z for a very short period of time.... and i can certainly sympathise as i too am having a massive upheaval in my personal life..... As the Z is my daily runner and i am probably going to struggle to fund her £600.00 per month dirty fuel habit.........

BUT I REFUSE to sell her on now.....

She will have a nice warm blanket put over her and declared sorn until im a little more sorted.... que the arrival of a 30 year old polo or something soon....

At least ill get the chance to work on her without worrying about messing it up and not getting to work the next day...

:) :)

Your insurance shouldnt be to bad, typically ive found 300zx's cheap to insure. Mine is £470 FC this year with breakdown cover included. I'm 25 with 4 or 5 NCB cant remember.

Shame to have to sell but if needs must, its one of those things its not worth getting into difficulty with regards to a car. If you think you might struggle it might be worth trying to get good money for it now rather than desperatly trying to sell for a knockdown price.

mate your zed is a one off, not many in that colour or to that spec... you will forever regret it as you will never get another like that and will always compare that to the one you have now , put a cover over her ..or put her in dry storage , use the money you saved on tax by sorning the zed for that ......buy a cheap cheap runabout

enjoy the zed when things settle down and you can enjoy it more....it will be like a congratulations ive done it present to yoursel;f

tbh everyone i think all my reservations are been voiced here and it's definitely how i feel in my gut. but at the same time i am trying a really balanced head. i've probably made more of an issue of insurance than it is, i can cover it but rotherham isn't the best postcode in the world and quotes are pretty dire. renewal is probably going to be about £1300 for me which is fine, but i've been looking at other things which are coming back around £600.

whats also playing on my head is at the minute i'm really active. i like to be out in my free time and can't wait for summer to come around and that's where i'll probably be restricted this year if i keep it. i hope this is making sense but its one of those thing's where i don't wanna look back n be like well what did i do when i was younger and think i missed out for sake of a car, without meaning to sound daft thats not the story kid are gonna want to hear about and stuff.

there's a lot going through my head at the minute so i think i'll do what jim said; put a test ad up and see what feelers i get. ultimately nothing is final until money & keys have changed hands so i can take it down at any time but in the mean time if i do get any offers or interest it gives me a few more options to consider
