Nope, Ive always dissconected the prop first with the gearbox level. I just put a latex glove onto the end of the gearbox, and nothing much comes out IIRC.

I've found that the best way to unbolt the gearbox is to lower the back end so you can acess the gearbox to engine bolts better.

i personally dropped the whole subframe with engine on . but i assume you are pulling engine up. you need to drop the prop and gearbox imo. and there shoudn't be any oil from back of gearbox.unless seal has gone on rear box bearing. good luck and hope all goes according to plan mate.

if the prop has been disconnected oil will come out surely .... as the oil level hole is higher than out put shaft and i know i filled it full ...

or do's mean just take it off from the centre and just leave the rest still in the box

and thanks its all going to plan right now

Oil will come out yeah, I get an aerosol can lid and wrap gaffer tap around it till its a snug fit, then whilst the gearbox is all still bolted up, remove the prop centre bearing to chassis bolts, watch it tho the prop is pretty heavy if it falls on your head, doubt any if much oil will come out the gearbox at this stage, shove yer bung of choice in the end of the gearbox, get a trolley jack under the rubber thingy at the back of the box (if manual) or a piece of wood across the sump (if i remember correctly) if auto, jack it up enough to take the weight of the gear box, undo the gearbox to chassis bolts, slowly lower the back of the box, the whole engine with tilt backwards, be careful not crush anything against the bulkhead with the engine, you should then be able with some long extensions be able to get to the top bell housing bolts, don't forget the top left (passenger side) bolt has a ground going to it, then you should be able to man handle out the box, then you should be sorted matey :)

yeah cheers ...

only got the top 4 to undo ... i know about the ground wire

just kinda refreshing my self as last time i had engine out it was last year ..

but it was engine and box all in one ..

and i remember the box emptying all its oil on my drive way Doh ....

at least this time i have the car in the garage doing it not on my drive way

so just looks like i'm about 30 mins away from engine out then

Center Prop , Bearing

Center Mount

4 Bolts

then Engine Pull
