just realised cos had other stuff on.my stock oil pressure guage shows central readings on cold start up then drops as oil warms up. which is pretty normal. but once warmed up the guage seems to go to sleep . should i be worried or have i a problem elsewhere?

OEM gauge is a blood pain in the ass bud, you would be better off getting a aftermarket one, then it should read about 20ish on tick over, 60 when cruising at 60 to 70. well thats what mine does anyway.

I can vouch for the gauge itself bud, if you're still using my clocks? As that was in the gunmetal car which has good oil pressure and the gauge was always good, it's the sender that's crap, once the signal gets weaker as the car warms up, it seems incapable of sending accurate readings on some cars, Roses car did what you're describing, just dropped off to nothing when it was warm :( When you get the center console off Rose mate it'll come with the oil pressure and water temp gauges and senders to replace your stock ones, so chin up :D

Common fault on them. When I first got mine, no aftermarket gauges fitted, on the motorway, looked down at the gauge is reading zero. Panic mode!

I've put an aftermarket one in now because apparently even if you replace the sender at £60 a pop, they don't last that long.

but then again ..i got told and reassured that it was the gauge but it was my oil pump was at fault and my engine went bang ...

it is very uncommon for the pump to go all most not heard of really

there is a thread that me and other guy started with a replacment sender unit at like £35 there abouts

would try that first ...

cheers for the input guys. if the pump is goosed then surely you'd tell that the lump would be running dry?

kinda yes ... but not necessary it could be running down on pressure when the oil is Hot...

mine just went all together when driving it

change the oil sender unit first as its most likely to be ... if your gauge still does the same then need to look in to it more

Yup - agree also. The sender always goes bad in a ZX which gives a low (or zero) pressure reading when up to temp. You'd soon know if the oil pressure was low - you'd hear the engine sounding like a bag of spanners......

And that's a damn good price; Nissan unit is around £90:oops:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Ironic really, my '93 GTR oil pump failed and it was a common fault on the GTR for it to do so, on the 90 - 99 ZX however, made and designed by the same damn people, the oil pump almost NEVER fails and the sender fails commonly :confused1:
