Overdrive problem help!!

When driving on the motorway at 70mph the car is revving way too high at 3500, the overdrive light works on the dash when you press the button but the revs dont drop. If you back off the accelerator the OD button then seems to work dropping the revs by about 1000 but then when you put your foot back down the engine just revs up by 1000 revs again before it takes up the drive to the wheels.

I hope its not shagged he only bought the car last night.

I was told the auto should do 70 mph at around 2500 or less revs

I had a similar problem, but also had some changing problems from first gear. The bad news was that I had to have the gearbox rebuilt.

In my case it was clutches and bands and no mechanical damage, but the garage said that sometimes he has know the overdrive gears to break up.

You may find it a good idea to run the gearbox diagnostic and to think about changing the gearbox oil and filters. It is often a job that is missed as ther is no drain plus and so you have to drop the bottom.

Somebody else may have some ther words of wisdom.

Is it freewheeling when you lift off at speed i. e. revs drop to 1000 or so and has to catch up when you apply throttle.

If it is then I suggest it is electrical more than likely a broken wire or loose terminal. Thats what happened on mine.

Take it to autobox specialist and ask for a full ecu pin test. cost me £300 but included full auto clutch brake test, flush etc.

If not electrical then will be o/d clutch oops!!
