This has probably been done to death, but what is its purpose. Is just to add extra earthing to the car and where does it connect to?

Featured Replies

It improves the earth connection over the entire car yes, it makes your electrics more reliable, more efficient and I've seen marked improvement on bhp in N/A cars previously. I will be fitting one to the Z when I get round to it.

It's kind of 98% nonsense because the earths the cars have from the factory provide all you need. However, they may be benefits on old cars, like ours, when lots of the connections have got a bit grotty and no longer have a totally sounds electrical connection. Claims of improved fuel economy are going to be difficult to justify .... So you could either clean up all your existing connections, which admittedly are hard to find reach etc etc, or you can bung extra wiring on top and hope that the "floodwiring" approach makes a difference ...

so i take it that they would bolt onto the body and engine?

sorry about the stupid questions, but I have never had to do this in any other car

It certainly will be a bit nonsense on newer cars, but older cars, like ours as you say, do benefit from better earthing. Not only because of crappy connections that have gone dry and rusty, but also because they never really made that many earthing points on older cars, the earth strap from the battery is about all you get in a Z, the further you are from that earthing point, the weaker the earth is for anything that doesn't have it's own earthing strap.

yes, the earthing kit provides various cables and connectors at the appropriate lengths and sizes to bolt up, with instructions on where to bolt them, some will be to the engine, some will be to the body, it essentially spreads the earthing of the car, throughout it, rather than being just one single point up near the battery.

Just realised I should clarify, the only 'decent' earthing point on a Z is near the battery, there are various earthing straps around the car, but they're using like 5amp cable that's not worth crap for anything other than potentially the small device it's attached to.

i found alot of feedback and interferance throught the sound system dissapeard after doing this

thats why, when I wired my amp up it was giving off interferance, and why My speedo convertor doesnt want to play nice

dunno bout the speedo thing as im still in jap limiter mode..lol

but the sound system certainly cleand up

I have the HKS circle earth system and haven't noticed any improvements to bhp or music etc. But I did have a drain on my battery from something which meant it would need charging up. The car has been off the road since october and has started every time which it wouldn't off done before I fitted the earth kit
