recently had my split rims powedercoated , they look great , tyres refitted , balanced etc etc , trouble is 2 of the foooking things are leaking like a sieve from the back side of the rim , where the nuts screw in, i cant tighten them up, in fact i cant budge them either way , and the powder coaters wont accept liability , and i cant prove they were not leaking before hand, i am so fed up im seriosly thinking of breaking the whole car , it may seem like a small point but im pisxed of with time money and effort being spent hand over fist and getting precisely no where, simply put i dont know where to go from here i dont have a great deal of brass at best , even less so currently. maybe ill set fire to the bloody thing at least then it will be useful for ten minutes keeping me warm.

Thats a bummer mate. Is it just the one wheel?? If so get the tyre off. split the rim and reseal. Simple job once the tyre is off.

Keep your chin up bud :pint:

if they have just been bolted back together with no sealant then that'll be why they are leaking. Powdercoaters would have had them all cleaned up before coating them so certainly looks like the tyres will have to come back off.

as dave said keep your chin up, although annoying when its done it'll be spot on. :)

i cant get the bloody bolts to budge one way or the other ,socket keeps slipping off ( 10 mm) any helpers out their, that is if can be bothered, as said im really leaning towards fookiing the whole thing off, enough is very nearly enough.

your best cooling down mate and tackeling it another day. you will only fook things up more when your peed off.

can you not get to the nut on the back of the wheel insted of the front??

What he said! Bit of tiger seal makes everything better except aids

could help prevent it by plugin you bell end :lol:

struggle for a pee though lol!

i am trying the nut on the back dave, its just they are so tight they wont budge

might be a daft suggestion, but are you using a good quality 6 point socket or a 12 point socket?, as 6 point ones are a lot less prone to slipping.

If not, get one of those 4WD sockets, they grip the flats not the points.

tried both, but you know what , sod it , im going to fook the thing off, decision made, end off

If its leaking it's not entirely the nuts fault. Shot down to a tyre place before work whip rubber off seal it, leave it to set then put tyre back on after work

Thanks Dave , but im not bothering , it will either go to the scrap man on the weekend or ill cut it up for bits and dispose of the rest , enough really is enough

  • Author

eddie thanks, but as said i cant get the nuts off to allow me to split , but im now not bothering im going to get shot of it

You don't need the nuts off, when you take te tyre off you will see the join that's what you need to smear sealant up

Take the tyre off and then split the nuts on the back with a dremmel and small cutting disc , I bet they are cross threaded. Then you can get some new bolts to fit.

There is more than one way to address this problem, I hope this suggestion is helpfull and you dont end up cutting it all up and loseing a load of money for what is just a minor setback. I know you will be seeing it differently at the moment, best to sleep on it and come back in a day or two,

So you are going to get shot of the car because of a couple of wheels leaking?

Or just the wheels?

leaking wheels are the proverbial straw, the whole lot can go, im not enjoying banging my head and wallet against a brick wall for bugger all pleasure , id rather get shot of it all together

dont just scrap it. if you are that fed up with it get it sold and recoup some costs.

Don't know Wednesfield but if you got em' to me I'll sort em' for you!-Don't get rid for something as daft as this!

its only cheap to have them done properly mate. last time i had a leak i was only charged around a tenner on a split rim leak.

are the wheels the only problem currently?

Awesome gesture that Daz... what this club is all about...

Dont scrap it, im sure someone here would take it off your hands for more than the scrap value.
