Looking to completely isolate the rear lights (tail lights, brake lights and number plate if not all).

The plan is to flick a switch in the front while driving that will just cut all of them out. I'm thinking they must all just have a main ground wire terminated onto the bodywork somewhere, if I cut that the lights should go out.

I can't find anything like that for the life of me!

Anyone out there tried doing similar and can point me in the right direction or anyone know these cars back to front, inside out and upside down that can help?

I'm an electrician so no replies talking to me like a 4 year old. answers on a postcard to theusual address.

The rear lights operate through a tail light sensor unit, which is located behind the rear plastic drivers side panel in the boot.

Take a look at this pdf diagram A51 showing the tail light sensor,

it shows you the feed from the light switch and the earth.

I cant remember if there is one feed from the light switch to all the lights or whether there will be one for front and one for rear, but im sure you will find a good spot to tap into, maybe through the relay board behind the fuse panel in the drivers footwell.

I can have fun with the old bill, but I don't think they'll see the funny side of it.

theres been a few threads on here regarding lighting mods for a zed but this is the first one ive read regarding making them worse . i hope the day never comes when you truly regret doing this.

Can't say its a mod I would ever do but if you do go ahead it might be an idea to hook it up to an LED on the dash - set it up so that the LED flashes when you have the rear lights off, that way the flashing LED will serve as a remider to you that you need to hit the button again to put lights back on when you are clear of the camera, would be easy to forget to put them back on otherwise and could result in a rear ender or a pull from plod for having no lights showing at the rear.

Really bad idea your having. Wanting to drive on road with no rear lights, speeding around with a way of hiding your plates from the old bill........

Easier and safer solution....

Get some track time and run howether fast and crazy you want.
