As the title says really..... Occasionally when I decide to give it a boot full on a motorway for example I can be doing 70, foot all the the way down. It'll kick down and usually go through that gear and without any warning part way through the next gear it just cuts all power. Bit as if I've all of a sudden plonked it in to neutral. No noises or smoke or anything.... It's a 91 tt auto import. Running 14 psi with usual stage 1 mods.

Any ideas? Like I say, there's no hesitation apart from occasionally on full throttle.

Cheers

Joel

Just read the last paragraph there, to be totally clear it doesn't hesitate until the cut out of power

Is this the 112mph jap import speed restrictor guys? I had a auto import it cuts in around 4000 rpm in 4th I think, just cuts the power

pretty sure it will bing or bong there is an audiable noise if you hit the speed restrictor.

Not all of the time. None if my imports did. just flatlined lol!!

When you say plonked into neutral, do you mean there is no drive? Do the revs increase but the speed doesnt? Or there is just simply no power? Is it quite violent?

The speed limited mentioned above is usually set to 112mph (however if you are running 14psi, you should have a chipped ecu which should have removed this limiter by default), is it always at the same speed that it looses power or different speeds?

Seen this before and although typically with zeds there can be a few causes a shut down of thuis nature is usually down to a bad maf sector or a cas unit overspeed issue, see if you can borrow these and swap out to see, one thing though, typically this kind if fault should but often does not give any fault codes, which adds to the problem.

It's kinda like I just tOtally step off the gas. It doesn't rev or anything but then again as soon as it happens I take my foot off the gas anyway. It's running that boost but unsure if it's been chopped etc.

I'll see if it does it at the same speed at the weekend.its a bit wet at the minute.

Ecu just has a det sensor code in it but I can't ever hear any det and I've listened hard. Not sure if any members could have a drive over one weekend to possibly diagnose?

Mmm...det sensor code that cannot be reset means the det sensor circuit has an issue whether it be the sensor, loom, connector or cable the code does not mean your getting detting.

However you will be running retarded ignition with that code which is not helpful, how has the been boost raised, controller or boost jets?

Not sure how it's been raised. There's no controller that I know of and it isn't spikey enough for me to suspect jets. I've used the resistor mod to bypass safety boost so not sure if that could be causing anything?

There's absolutely nO performance issues anywhere which makes me wonder a little!

Ok seems back to what said before, either cas or afm, afm issues can be varied and not always obvious as I said they often do not give a code when they are giving an out of range signal, the afm can sometimes when faulty even stop the engine starting! I think you definately should try an borrow an afm / cas and see how you get on.

Jeff ad always your a god amongst us mere mortals.

Maf shouldn't be too hard, what's the crank angle like to get to? Easily located?

Ok the cas unit is dead simple picture below, its to the extream right 3 x 10mm bolts, remember though a timing check will be required.

If you get stuck on a cas unit we have plenty and can send one to try.

I have this exact same problem. Its as if it loses all power, revs drop off and boost goes. it is quite violent.

however its only occasionally. It used to do it loads when i first got it. i found it was full boost at low revs, (i.e. 5th at 40mphish) but then it just all of a sudden stopped, (maybe because i just stopped boosting at low revs) but now a year later, just after a service and a set of plugs its back. its done it to me once nearly every time i've driven it since the service.

Good news is though it'll be seeing Jeff In the morning so hopefully you can shed some light on it then.
