Guys, my son has bought a set of coilovers for his Golf Mk4.

HOW TO GUIDE HERE: http://noahlh.com/car/coilover_howto/

In order to get the OEM shocks off I need to get hold of a 21mm - 60 degree offset spanner/s & one 22mm to get the coilovers back on the car, Short of buying a complete set from the US, can anyone point me towards a UK supplier?

I can't even seem to find them on the Snap On site

ok here is my tip for the day ..

undo the main Nut 80% with the car on the ground ...

this De tentions the Spring from the locking bolt

get an Old Socket that fits and Grind 2 flat spots on it

now use a Spanner that fits or Ajusting spanner ...

this will allow you to use your hex key

once you got it free

jack the car up and do the rest per post ...

only do it this way if u do not have the correct tool ...

Good idea, thanks, thats half the job.

Still have to get the retaining nut 22m off the secondhand c/overs, the c/overs don't have a Allen bolt like the OEM shock they have a 11mm sqaure/flange that your supposed to grip somehow whilst using the 22mm socket.

Just don't wont to start the job and get stuck half way through as he needs the car after the weekends, to go back to Uni. So once started I would like to finish.

cheers for the links guys, the offset needs to 60 deg, still searching, lol

I can't find 'em. Might be an idea to ask on a Golf forum buddy. Found a couple of threads that mentioned what you are after but no links unfortunately.

What about a spark plug socket? They have the hex on the outside to get a spanner on... I'd either impact wrench it off, weld up a box spanner, or get a ring spanner in the vice, get it really glowing red hot, bend it to shape with a hammer, then drop it in some water. Just a few thoughts matey...

thats not the only problem ... it needs to be short so he can use the Hex key at the same time to hold the Shock shaft still when undoing the nut ..

I had these kind of problems doing suspension on an Audi A2... you should be able to do it with a set of drop neck spanners (offset doesn't matter then as they'll still clear) - try motorfactors...

I also cut the long side off an alan key and put it in a suitable socket so I could hold it whilst using the spanner - awkward to do if you;ve only got the short bit to hold on to!

Once I'd finished one side, a neighbour kindly lent me an impact gun ;)
