hopefully more than just a baby seat for the zed haha but got alot to pay for before i even think about that. just cant believe how many people want jobs done they are nothing big mostly 50 to 100 pound jobs only had one at 385 that should come off next week. they all add up though

It is better than a kick in the rear,I am a partsman, and i have been looking for a job back up the road in the lanark area and there just isnt anything ,and when does come up I am always to late, unfortunatly it is just the way things are so while you are getting the work take all you can and leave nothing behind

You might be surprised, do a good job at a decent price and word of mouth will soon get out.

That is so true, I went self employed about 6 weeks ago and have work lined up till the summer already.

You should be making a mint as a sparky judging by the price the I was just given to get a job done on the house im refurbing!

Yeah I'm kept busy priced about 2k of work so far and completed about 550 of it after tomorrow. They are all little jobs but it's all money at the end of the day. What did you get a quote for and how much see if it's what I would have charged

The first job was basically to wire in a system for a loft conversion that has already been layed out: Connect up 4 sockets and 1 light switch to the ring mains that go to the consumer unit upstairs, then wire in the consumer unit to the 40amp cable coming from downstairs. All junction boxes and cable are sorted its literally the ends of the cables need connecting.

Second part was to turn some single power socket into doubles in the master bedroom, move a couple of them of which I have already chased out the sockets. Move a BT point and connect it into then rest of the system for downstairs (just connect the cable to an existing one).

Im still waiting for one quote, the first was £465 with me supplying all the sockets and switches, chasing all cables and sockets that are being moved and removing the floor boards and carpet where needed.

Sounds like alot but really it isn't the bulk of the work has already been done it just needs plumbing together mostly. Im not a sparky but have worked alongside them in jobs alot in the past and would say that is a maximum of one days work for one competent sparky, plus the gang boxes, 10 metres of power cable, 5 metres BT cable so around the £300 mark but feel free to tell me if im dreaming :sneaky2::lol:

Just got the second quote through of £681.12. Damn I picked the wrong trade!

if its a company that is doing the work then 465 is a half decent price as most will charge a client at least £40 an hour labour an probably a days work as you said which would be a minimum of £320 than add the material which can have silly markups on them. if you got someone to come do it outwith there work then id say 300 would be achievable if i was closer id certainly have done it for 300

Sorry to hijack Zero`s thread, Lanark area ?? Bellshill to far to travel for you ??

Alan.........

i do this with plumbing, but for some reason everyone think's plumber's should work for nowt, someone asked me to plumb a bathroom in many years ago, i told them £200 plus part's (pipes all needed altering) was told to fook off as it only cost £150 for the suite

i dont bother doing any extra work much now, no one seem's to want to pay

fookers always ring me to repair other people's bodge job's though, totally refuse to do it
