Resetting odometer

I had to change the odometer a year ago so now it is underreading by 110,000km. I am now so p*ssed off with this that I want to get the correct reading back again.

This may be the first recorded case of someone wanting to increase recorded kms but then I even give back incorrect change to bartenders.

Do we know any kind legal upstanding people who might offer this service?

Thanks - Gio

You can take it all apart and twiddle the numbers, I had to do mine when it started sticking. Henri posted a great How-to and there's a link on my site somewhere.

This is usually pretty easy if long winded on this type of clock (Just like doing an old sierra!!).

Any mechanic who's been in the trade long enough to remember the older cars will be able to do it. Or any used car salesman will be well experienced!!

One thing though - You'll almost certainly find somebody who will tell you to take the front off the dash and flick the numbers over with a little screwdriver - this works (car reads different), but usually breaks the odo...

Alternately theres a guy in Romford advertising a red low milage n/a one (autotrader) who definately knows how...

Thanks Andy - found Henri's link on your site http://www.angelfire.com/geek/vg30dett/Cluster/Fix_Cluster.htm

Eeeeek eek.gif this looks like exactly the sort of thing that starts with "remove the two screws" and ends with me under medication.

Until you guys have seen me in action, you have no idea quite how unlucky / incompetent I can be redface.gif

Since it needs the side pods taken off, I think I will wait awhile until a little job I have been thinking about needs me to take off the r cluster and kill 2 birds etc.

But thanks for the pointers - any simpler ideas gratefully received.

& thanks, Nickelby4 - now all I need to do is to post "dodgy sierra dealer wanted for clocking job" and see what happens".

Is this the trick with the drill just fast-forwarding things?

If so, short story.

Mate in pub had mate in ATC. Back in early 70's bought a clean Mk1 Cortina and over the next decade, lavished loads of TLC - real enthusiast, no expense spared.

Decided to sell it - looked at mileage and thought "actually, the car is in much better nick than that. 10 years of care & attention, driven with love, better than perfect. But I'll never get what it's worth with that mileage. So I'll just wind it back a few thou to get a fairer price for the beautiful condition."

Chappie opens up the dash, drops the speedo, turns it round and on the back sees a little sticker which says...

I only use the brakes so I can accelerate all over again.
