can somebody point out where the restrictors are on the exhaust?

Are they about in line with that guys air gun? (if that was a stock system)

Well the cats are the big restriction there, the two odd shaped bits on the exhaust.

Well I know that, but they aint going, I doubt the turbos would last 5 minutes. But there is supposed to be washer-type restrictors in the system on the jap spec. And we're having new backboxes, but not centre piece, so need the centre piece to be as free flowing as possible for best noise biggrin.gif

I could be wrong but from simple physics wink.gif the restrictors can only be put in place between two flanges? agree? I would hazard a guess that on changing the box you may find the restritors, otherwise look between all the flanges on the system.

Im only guessing though, but theres no other way the thing could be held in place smile.gif

Its a bit of arsing round to check all flanges, but hey, if no one can give you the definate answer, then you know where to start.

Also, these air restrictors, essentially increase backpressure, agree?

Be careful, as you said, the turbo seals wouldnt last 5 mins, with the cats off, dont throw the restrictors away...as on removing them you'll also be reducing the backpressure on the system reducing the pressure on the seals. As I assume the restrictors actually *do* something, as they have been put in after all. This could instigate turbo seal failure. Bear it in mind, as you dont trust the cats out...why the restrictor?

because people dont have problems with turbos after fitting upgraded exhausts, but they do when removing the cats

There is a web site that shows the exhaust restictors.

Clarkey - fair enough, but just cos no-one else has commented on it doesnt mean yours wont break the seals.

With exhaust AND restrictor removal at same time, may decrase back pressure enough to break the seals, just letting you know.

I would sooner get the smoking sorted before getting an exhaust too. Im not being antagonistic toward you (it may read like I am)

Just trying to help you out.

Other people may have had the restrictor removed before getting a performance exhaust. Or as they are jap imports, have had it removed already and new exuast put on a younger engine, fresher seals, therefore the drop in backpressure doesnt overly effect the seals.

A smoking problem already then a decrease in backpressure maybe cause the seals to fail.

Maybe someone else could offer better information for you?

Im just trying to help you! smile.gif
