ive had afunny burrrr type noise whilst boost was 0-4 psi

only makes this noise at + boost

nay ideas guys???

thanks jay

jay what are recircs when they are at home?

  • Author

2 little metal pipe jobbies at the sides of ya air filter(recirculate the air from the turbo)when off boost(like when ya change gear)

when they dont work yoo get a quick shhhhush sound like you have B,O,V'S

I am sure that they are allowed a little noise. Mine make a quiet long shhhh when I let off. A non stock exhaust and induction kit will make the valves sound louder. It may even be the warm air.

Jay, seems like we are having the same problems (tie bars, recircs etc..). What's your car? - mine's a '90 Jap Auto with about 60K

Mine makes a funny noise - sounds more like a hooting noise or a kazoo to me :-(

It probably has been worse since I put a Blitz cone on it - always seems to be around or just above 0 boost. Doesn't happen if you nail it tho' (that's my excuse ;-))

Cheers,

Jay, let me know what happens please. I was under the impression that it didn't really cause a problem - it was just annoying...

Cheers,

RobH

What sound are you guys getting. Im getting a soft shhhh noise. You cant hear it when the windows are closed, and you can really only hear it when the road is enclosed.

Its not a funny Brrr noise or hooting.

Am I safe then?

Stuart

Yeah I get a funny noise when I shift from 5 to 4 at high rev's only it's a real loud noise sounds like it comes from the exhaust though!

I get a strange noise that can only be described as like having an owl stuck in the grill! wwhhhoooooooo!

LOL

May be the same thing but I only noticed it since upping the boost a year ago.

I've always assumed it was an air leak somewhere but maybe it's these valves.

Runs fine though and sounds cool to me wink.gif

THIS IS THE FUNNIEST THREAD IVE EVER READ!

LITTLE shhhhhh,BIG SHHHHHH,hooting kazzoo a

brrrrrrrr and a wwhhooooooo's

fuck me our cars should be in a band!

I have a whhoooo too. Might be a coincidence but it started when the air filter was upgraded.

well all these sounds ,sound vacumm related and i think when we start tinkering with increased vacumm(air filters, exhaust)etc,we should all look into changing our recirs valves, bovs may sound a good idea as we are increasing the volume of air(maybe boost)

tommorow i'm putting in my car some standard recircs to see if my problem is from the recircs,i'll let you no wat the outcome is.

ive got a funny feeling that these wont last long but hey its only dosh.

Now im not sure if anyone actually answered the question here.

Now the quick and correct answer it YES - if you Recircs are seized in the closed position then they can damage the turbos !

You see what happens is when the butterflys close you get a charge of compressed Air that was desinted from the intake manifolds which now has no where to go - So you get a build up of back pressure towards the turbos which hits the compressor wheel causing what is known as compressor surge. This not only harms performance (because it slows the compressor wheel down) BUT it causes extra stress to turbin shaft and bearings.

Is it gonna brake your car in 10 mins - probably not - I would stay of full throttle especially while doing gear shifts if i was you ! doubly so if you have very new or very old turbos !

I have noticed this is quiet common on Z's on of mine has siezed in the short wink.gif ammount of time it has been of the road !

Fortunalty that lovely fella Luke Duke has let me have his old blow off valves for a nice price !

to fix it just buy some BOV's and disable the Recirce Ginger Spice can get you some HKS ones are wait for the new Blitz ones next month !

faililng that Bailey make some cheaper ones from about 85 quid each .
