recommended replacement brakes for zed

so what do people think are the best brakes for the zed for under 500 squid? i have looked at 3g brakes, but they may wear out quick?

Featured Replies

you might be able to pick up some second hand Skyline brakes for around that.......

Hope your wrong about 3G. Mines been on a few thousand miles now and the discs show no signs of wear nor do the pads. Discs are well polished now but no ridging or lip starting - yet. That is with stock size 20G discs and Mintex pads. Also very little dusting.

Willie,

yeh i just dont want to spend out continually on new pads, then to find that the grooves are wearing out as well. is you car modified? and do you drive the car hard?

i must admit the 3 brakes seem the best value/quality for the money.

cheers

Just big pipes and an intake. Dont drive it that hard I suppose. I want to keep my license! But I have done some heavy braking from speed lately and all's well. I worried that the grooves would egg slice the pads but I am happy to say that it doesnt happen.

I like MAC1s above, they look the part. My neighbours new Scooby STI has similar calipers. I have to admit the stock size 3Gs do look a little underfed under big 18" wheels with lots of spokes.

but I am seriously happy with the way mine goes just now.

its got to be said that the zed stock brakes are next to useless, the mrs has a BMW 323iSE (1997) and the brakes on that really grab compared to the zeds which dont seem to work compared to the beemer. good to hear you are pleased with them, i will have to wait a bit now b4 i buy any as i've just had my engine virtually rebuilt amongst other things!

cheers

on what basis do you comment on them wearing out quickly?

they are proper Brembo Discs, far better thant he OEM units?

At the end of the day you pay for what you get and if you want a decent setup go for R33 upgrade calipers and discs.

I have used tarox grooved discs and they are warped now. They dont particularly eat pads but do squeal a lot. I have just ordered a pair of Cryo front discs from Paul @ Whifbitz (£98 each) so will see if they are betting braking but can't complain at the braking witht he arox and greenstuff pads or even tarox with Nissan pads, just disappointed that they warped - no more drilled or grooved discs for me - plain discs that can be skimmed are best! IMHO

nope cant agree there, you can skim a grooved disc or a slotted discs without any problem. your warping problem was more to do with the manuafacturer or the torque used to tighten the wheels.

i was told by ChrisC i think that the pads wear out quickly, but i may be wrong, can you confirm chris? i dont want to be changing pads anf then finding out the grooves are worn out as well, gee man these cars are expensive enough as it is. 3G do seem pretty good though.

Well i had these discs on my car and they worked a treat. Pad wear is only relative to how hard you use your brakes.
