I'm not stopping at just spraying the inner dial surround :D

These will get the full treatment - silver and gunmetal grey with a ridiculous amount of lacquer and smooth strokeable finish ;p

.... yes, it's going to take a while lol ::rolleyes1:

The OCD bit. Because It is NOT an automatic and the rear wiper CAN'T go on because of the spoiler that's going on the car, I really hate seeing functional switches and displays that are not used so I have to 'delete' those too :)

Where the cruise control switch was, there is a nice bright 8mm wide beam blue LED behind it so I'd appreciate ideas on lighting that up eg with a 'NISSAN' logo. The switches are actually clear plastic when you rub them down :) Vinyll Nissan sticker / spray over/remove at the end?... sounds tricky. Cut out a hole, get some diffuser paper/and vinyl?

First fun... completely dismantled pods :)

Bit of fibreglassing.... I'm now onto a bit of body filler and more sanding.

Unfortunately the sexy little Apexi turbo timer I took a chance on ordering off Ebay that I was going to build in just doesnt work so I'm going ahead without it. :) We got half the price back off the supplier because they REALLY dont want the bad feedback, fingers crossed we can get it to work. I hope so, because even though I have to fix the 'brand new' cosmetic damage, because the digits light up in blue.

Why is that mate? Doesn't it give an indication of whether your air fuel ratio is right, in which case an A/F ratio gauge would be better although im guessing more expensive?

Exhaust gas temp is something to use combined with the A/F reading to give you a clue about how the engine is running. If the A/F looks fine, yet the exhaust gas temp has sky rocketed, then something is getting in your cylinders and making them run too hot. Just about every pro racer I know, or have met, has exhaust gas temp gauges.

You really need wideband for an accurate AF reading. The cheaper gauges just give you an idea of the ratio really.

You don't necessarily need gauges at all, you can buy various kits for the Z that will not only tell you what your A/F is, but will actually allow you to change it on the fly, and no I'm not just talking about a fancy ECU here, more something that hooks into it as an addition. Can't for the life of me remember the name of it and I need to, as I want one in the Grey one when it's ready.

I just don't want it looking like the flight deck on an experimental aircraft ... YUK! :)

Yeah but with so many guages, at least it's easier to suss out if the car's about to blow up or not and makes it much easier to pinpoint what's actually wrong with the car :D

Where's the flux capacitor?:cool2:

Dont give me ideas lol. I was watching LED 3D light balls on YouTube all last night aswell :)

I'll tell you what, that original hazard switch won't be going back in there now!!

Alex bought me a new soldering iron with loads of attachments at Christmas. It has a hot melt knife which I LOVE!

Have run out of resin and crappy brushes again so it will have to sit there until the weekend now :(

I really need to make sure they look exactly the same on both sides. Think I'll be a big kid and get the papier mache out next lol

Nice thing is they are digital gauges going in so don't need direct view.

just my opinion think the angle is a little wrong .. u need to face it more

dont think it will look quite right

Well that's thrown at it with sticky tape in the pic lol. I think both photos ended up with it angled differently. I'll be faffing with it for hours getting the happy medium between good view of the dial vs obstruction of the dial cluster. :)

I think this is a fascinating project, can't wait to see the finished article.

Looking forward to the next instalment.

Love what youve done so far execpt angling that pod, where the hazard switch was its gonna look like a mutant micky mouse :( surely those gauges would be better on a pillar mount???

I agree i didnt want a dash full of guages either so opted for the digi dash and 2 aem guages that display all the readings from the ecu.

Interesting project 1 to watch.

Thanks for the encouragement and also thanks for the criticism, it's appreciated. I was worried I was getting annoying with the amount of pics. I'll keep em coming then :)

Yep do, im keen to see a detailed stage by stage of how you now go from the hole you cut, to fixing the gauge holder in place, to moulding it in, then finishing it. I've never seen how you work fibre glass and resin in this sort of application, i've only ever used it for roofing.

this is one of the best threads on here ,,,,,.......i log on each day to see what the update is ...fantastic work going into this ....but where you have the pods will they not be obscured by the steering wheel ?? ..keep the pics coming and a step by step for us lesser mortals would be cool as fook

Please don't give her ideas on re locating the steering wheel....quick edit your post rofl1smiley.gif

Well I've been out almost all day today, getting my new Galaxy S II (WAY better than an iPhone btw :D) and picking up some more resin, tissue, filler, etc. for Rose to continue modding stuff. Within 5 minutes of me being in the door she was at it and I swear she's making stuff for NASA without telling me!

Ok, think I have the angles sussed on these things now :)
