As above really on two stupid items, one was the examiners fault = emissions, i had to prove that the car was 1990 let alone trying to explain that the zed isnt in the database, but he said now that they need proof for a pre cat test. I took it to him last year with no problems, so i wonder why it should be any different this year

Second item, which to be fair i knew about, but after double checking everything was working i totally forgot to sort it = the japspeed drivers manifold touching the steering rod  forgot to hammer it :cursing:

Anyway its going back in monday for the retest which it will now pass, so im not too unhappy :phone:

thats a guuter m8y

its rubbish when things like this happen

my first zed fail was on the window wiper not having the clip on them i knew about it just forgot to fix it

least it isnt a long list of things

as for the mani thing i take it the drivers side mani needs to be bashed a bit

iv got the same ones just havnt got round to getting them on just read that the o2 sensor interfers wit the steering

3 fails on MOT's ive had with the zed was to do with lights, front side lights wrong color (even though i had white LED's in the bloody things) and rear number plate failing to illuminate.

the other failed MOT's were when i was just trying to see what needed fixing before the real MOT to get it on the road lol

He was a cock last time wasnt he.

I always take along my old mot sheet, with all the data for the zed stapled to it just incase :)

thats a good point m8y

my most recent mot was an indi(he's also owned alot of grey import the best probably being the starion) tester my first on was at kwik fit

when i asked him about the advisories i got from quik fit he showd me a couple of things that descusted me like them lelling me my shocks were going when in actual fact they just sprayd some oily grease on the place where they would actually leak from

Its the same garage Dave, they got rid of the idiot that was responsible for the first blunder, then it flew through last year with the same guy who tested it today, so unless he forgot, who knows. I did prove the age there and then and he was happy with proof, so just the japspeed manifold rubbing to sort out.

A few things i thought he might pull it up on, he was fine with eg: my battery has never been secured :turned:, my front torsion bar, bush is split as it was last years MOT ( i have new bushes to go in) but he passed it, one rear exhaust mount is missing, i had it in the boot just incase, but no he let that go.

Must have been in a mood today

So minor Gary that it should have passed really, considering what i thought it may fail on, but yes should fly through on Monday.

MOT stations vary unbelievably. Some things someone would pass on, others fail it. Probably would have passed it in a different garage.

Yes mate the O2 sensor flange, just catches the steering rod. Turning right is fine, but it squeaks when turning left or pulling away hard, so rubs just enough to score the paint covering on the rod. A bash with a hammer to gain the few mill clearance or get the flange moved and hole welded up.

cheers m8y shes kinda off the road now for winter/maint/new parts but thanks for clearing that up for me

Torsion bushes never seem to fail for some reason. I was told it's because it's not structural, it's handling, but that must be *****cks, because mine failed on nackered anti roll drop link bushes, they're handling and not structural......god knows. Mine are seeping and shot, as most seem to be apparently. Going to replace them with the rose jointed aftermarket ones I think. Good luck for Monday Graham.

I know what you mean, mine is split and has been leaking and i would have thought that would be a fail. Ive got some new polybushes going on, i try to stay clear of rose bushes after my droplink fiasco, but i do have some rear lower arms to put on that do have the rose joints, just got to make sure they are greased up well, unlike my previous experience with the drop links lol

Suspension bushes need to be practically falling apart before they would fail an MOT!!

The MOT is a pretty low standard actually for wear & tear on parts!

My main issue with him are the emissions really, i thought we had got over that little hurdle a couple of years ago, as i say he either forgot or had to be seen to be doing something. Every time i said its not on the database, he kept saying he needed proof of the age of the car. Its on a K plate, but chassis number and everything else date related points to 1990 and the logbook says 2004. Even if he thought it was a 93 i thought we were safe upto 95.

yup - thats correct, up to 95 if the car fails the BET test then a vehicle specific test needs to be carried out, if an exact match cannot be found in the database then a non cat test is performed

Cheers Paul, i thought so, although its not going to be an issue for me now, i think i will try and educate him again on the database regarding the zed, but as you know, they wont admit they were wrong lol

Just saved it, Cheers.

I have no O2 sensors, but i guess if they are not there they cant be tested!

You say its in the current online testers manual, i take it that this hasnt changes since 2002?

oh - and heres the database - go to page 98 for Nissan - you will notice the 100NX, 200SX, Z33, Z34 etc etc but no 300ZX Z32!!

http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/In%20Service%20Exhaust%20Emission%20Standards%20-%2016th%20Edition.pdf

Im aware its not in the data base, but i do remember seeing an emissions wall chart in his garage with the 300zx listed, obviously a fairlady wont be.

thats probably a brake test chart - the emissions database is a big thick book that the testing station should have!!
