z32 1990 tt import starts fine when cold but when she warms up she starts but wont idle but if you give it a bit of throttle she starts and runs at 2000+ revs the minuite you back it off to idle it dies if you try to catch it with a bit of throttle before it dies it bogs and drops the revs till it stops checked plugs they were very sooted and black cant find an air leak has no stored codes and good fuel pressure if i unplug the maf it wont start or do bugger all im thinking either ptu? or bad fuel? unfortunately it wont run long enough to gas myself so i really need to get it running hope someone can give me an idea

Maybe worth starting with the base idle, sounds to me that once the warm up cycle has done it's job the base idle coupled with the ecu is not taking over.

With the engine warm, disconnect the yellow connector at the air bypass valve and see if the ecu will take over.

You may have to adjust the base idle screw first. (anti clockwise I believe to increase the tick over.)

Also, I would look at all of the connectors and check for green verdigris, could be something as simple as a bad connector

cheers fella unfortunately no go still the same wonder if anyone else has had same problem?

yep runs quite well when it starts but if you hold it at say 2000 rpm it feels/sounds like its on 4-5 cylinders

if holding at 2k, and it seems its lost a cylinder, i would be checking connections on ptu, temp sensor and maf. Use a small file, and clean the connectors of green muck. If still no good, at least you have eliminated some possibles.

cool! cheers for help so far lads also its a series 1 ptu which is why i suspect it but it seems to be a little different in symptoms, only needs to run long enough to gas myself lol

If you have a series I PTU fitted, then I would say, change it. The series I PTU is prone to failure, the series II PTU does not fail when overheating occurs (not to be confused with high engine temps on gauge).

My advice..... get a series II PTU.... if it works out, happy days, if not, don't worry because your series I PTU will die eventually, as they did recall the 300zx for a PTU change under warranty back in the ol' days....lol

Hope this helps you out buddy....
