In my experience NO, there is room there for a full size one so a full size one it will be.

It can actually be a smaller plate but it is down to the size of the font, so check these on the web

Have a 2/3rd size plate but make sure your fonts make the legal requirement.

Both mine were small on the front, the plate itself and the font, I got a roadside penalty off two anal cops, this is why I know and am now a bitter man

right my understanding of it as follows you can if the vechile doesnt have provision for a standard sized uk plate and wasnt designed for the uk market. you could always send the dvla a letter, chap i know has a lette in his glove box that esentially says hes allowed it, as an officer ripped it off and it all got rtaher messy. they ended up appolgising and paying for some new sticky pads. anyways since the zed was realised here you probally wint get away with it unless its a 99 spec which wasnt realised here and has a number plate mount too small for a full uk plate. you can but give dvla a call if they do give you permission let us all have a photocopy i hate my front plate.

I run a slightly smaller plate but keep a full size one in my boot so if i do get pulled i can swap it there and then, I find that police use things like number plates as a reason to pull you over for something else

This may be of help

The characters on a number plate need to be a standard height and width.

Your number plate should show the correct:

•character height - 79 millimetres

•character width - 50 millimetres (except the figure 1 or letter I)

•character stroke - 14 millimetres, (not sure what this means)

•space between characters - 11 millimetres

•space between groups - 33 millimetres

•top, bottom and side margins - minimum 11 millimetres

•space between vertical lines - 19 millimetres

I have heard that if you repeated get stopped and given a fixed penalty for small or non-standard plates then dvla can withdraw your vehicles registration number and re-issue a 'q' plate instead.dont know how true this is but have heard it from quite a few police officers.

Used to have a gsxr-1100 with a fag packet sized plate, got two fixed penalties and was told I would lose the reg if I didnt change it.

A wise man

The police love nothing more than being complete arses, and especially when you have a fancy car that they know nothing about
