It seems my aircon condenser has a hole in it. I put the car in for a conversion to R134a, several new bits etc to be ready for the'summer'. Lo, the garage called tosay as fast as the gas went in, out it came. So, no aircon. Still, on the bright side, no charge for the diagnosis.

Question. If I get the condenser off, is it likely to be repairable, or are they definitely a change only item? Quoted £180 + VAT + 1.5 hrs labour on top of the rest of the job, so it was cancelled. just have to take the tops off!!!

It's no use fixing the condenser, it will start leaking from another place soon anyway.

Unless something punched a hole from the outside, that is.

You could try to localise a cheaper replacement condenser that is not made by Nissan.

Have a talk with your aircon-shop.

What were you offered for £180 + VAt, I have been quoted £1,340 for Compressor, belt change of gas - £800 was just the compressor!

dont forget to replace the reciever/drier. should be replaced everytime the system is opened really, once exposed to the atmosphere it acts like a sponge drawing moisture into it.

I feel the need, the need for speed!

So you Gents have obviously looked into the conversion from R12. What gives - What do we need to do?

Hi Bryane,

Have you got yourself a new condenser now? I ask because, I was about to fit mine back in - but there's a hole in the bottom core! And I don;t much fancy paying the £350 that Nissan UK are asking for it!

Simon.

Simon,

No, I didn't go ahead with it. The quote for £180 for the condenser was from Hilltop Garage at Horndean, nr Portsmouth.

If your the Simon I'm thinking of, I believe you are local?
