New MOT certificate...not

Sure you some of your MOT guys have already seen these but we saw the new MOT certificate last week and was very surprised by the low tech look of them, in fact not just low tech but low security also, no actual official water marked paper just normal pc paper and printed using a small ministry programme....!

They were going to do away with the "certificate" 5 years ago once MOT computerisation was implemented. All that was going to be issued was a little bit of paper as a receipt. The real record of test is stored electronically there has not been a need for a certificate for 5 years.

However the "little bit of paper" was deemed to be insuficient to appease the general public because " ive been issued with a certificate for 30 odd years, so I still need one mentality". From reading these posts I now understand the the guru's were spot on lol, ffs this is 2011 everything else is electronic why not an MOT certificate.

The benefits as Paul C so rightly points out is far more security, previously there were stolen certificates, forged certificates washed and rewritten certificates and all very hard for anyone other than VOSA to prove authenticity.

Now all tests must be recorded on MOT comp, wont stop a bad test but will stop all the hoods selling on vehicles with stolen/forged certificates. It is now far easier for the public to check and see whether an MOT is valid, they can do it from the comfort of their own home.

Forget about the bit of paper you receive it is virtually worthless, I dont even understand why the Post office need it for taxing the car as they can see its in test on their computers.

only that it says certificate or refusal at the top LOL!

all printed on plain paper now.

Advisory's are now on the same sheet

Refusal certificates list the failures on the left hand side, pass certificates don't :)

have heard its a special mouse supplied by the ministry at £55 each u cant use ur own also that tests could become b-anuall instead of yearly

Special mouse? Atos (formerly Seimens) are in charge of all the computer systems, and it's a computer from the mid 90's! It was only brought in, in 2005. Horrible things to use lol.

Well, I said the traders would hate em' with the Advisory's visible and how right was I!

A guy who buys from us just sold a disco but the lower balljoints were advised.

Customer says 'I want those doing or I'm not buying the car!'

£500 a piece!:scared:

That was the biggest failing of the last lot of documents, rather than a little tick box the advisories should have been visible. How many traders have been tearing up advisories for years.

I agree a paper certificate is pointless but some people still dont have a computer like some older folk or poorer families. The costs for the old paperwork must have been boatloads.Im wondering if the mot will be cheaper now  yeah right !! I agree that its good to prevent people losing the advisory certificate to pass on vehicles with potential defects looming though. That loophole needed fixing years ago.

lol you havent got the hang of this austerity thing yet, its all about cutting costs (jobs, materials) and making even greater profits at the same time......or am I just being cynical?

Wouldn't know!
