can anyone help please. my 300 (90 n/a manual) has developed a fault with the speedo. sometimes it works and other times just reads 0mph. its not really bothering me but mot time soon so really needs sorting.

Cars don't need a speedo for MOT :D

true, but dont bother with the line "ive no idea, the speedo dosent work" when the cops pull u and ask do u know how fast u were going. cops are not known for there sense of humor!

Agreed, it's not an excuse for speeding, they won't care, I was only pointing out the MOT part :D I had a Ford Capri with no speedo for 3 years and it passed every test, I was concerned about it at first as tomomontana obviously is, because MOT time was coming up, then I was told it isn't needed. Of course in those days, you could judge your approx speed from everyone else and the revs etc. without TOO much fear of a mobile speed camera down the road, not anymore! :(

Is it an import..... If so it could be a problem with the converter for kph to mph.... and many take until about 20mph to fire up and read the speed !

i recon you on the nail there tony mine did this i solved the problem by driving it more often lol.

Very useful piece of info there!

I have seen all my dials 'lose power' momentarily before whilst trundling along. figured it was a loose wire/dodgy connection due to crappy install(imported car). hasn't happened for ages wheh-hey!

but- unhelpful temp gauge hasn't indicated signs of life for a while now. I put that down to the guage being a teenager.

thanks to everyone for their suggestions, i had a feeling it was the speed convertor but wasn't 100%. i reckon i'll just give the car to the garage and let them sort it. like i said, it doesn't bother but i'd prefer everything to work as it should.

before you do that just pop the cover off your gauge cluster on the top, pull the plug out of it that goes to the speedo, little bit of crc/wd-40... worth a crack before paying some joker.

Yeah very true, it's only two screws to remove the top hood of the guage cluster and could save you the diagnostic hours in the garage for them to just do the same. I'd probably recommend connection cleaner rather than wd40 though, although it does work if you haven't got any.

I was going to say connector cleaner but most people dont have some laying around and a little squirt of WD-40 wouldn't do any harm, but yeah connection cleaner is better... sorry it was late lol.

Ya sorted then mate! let us know how ya get on,

sometimes it`s a dry joint on the speedo board, plenty of posts about this issue.

I've had this happen too a few times. It has registered 0 mph and the power steering seems to go heavy then when it recovers so does the speedo.....

Also had it go to full scale too a couple of tomes.....
