Third time lucky

Third time

It is not an intention to spam the boards, other threads just went WAY off topic cheers, play nicely

SIGH....

Impressed with the 6x9's or the head unit, dunno, but shit, whats the amped up version and the subs going to sound like? Also showing one of 3 sound settings on the underlighting and the ease of the targas.

Legal statement. Dont try this at home.

Yes, I look like shit after a week huddled in the garage with sanding paper and got more to go lol

Resounding concerns...

A. :excl:Decapitation by targas

B. :excl:Glass being damaged

A. They are very secure, pure physics of the angle they sit in would not allow them to come forward into the car. The curvature of the boot and roof also wont allow this, it is a relative impossibility. However, since the concern is resounding, a simple fibreglass modification to the boot lid to 'stop' the targas on the outer edge should satisfy this.

B. An early consideration I had, although after further research, this is also highly unlikely. The free flowing space around the targas allow plenty of space for the resonating sound waves to escape. True, the vibration may take its toll on the seals of the targas, but who doesnt have leaky targas anyway.

Lets rewind a bit into reality, or rather bring it down a few decibels.

Its only 2x10" subs and 2x6x9's!! I'm not in it for the sound off of the century.

Concerns about bursting glass is rather bizzare, since I dont see this on the Beast or Artztogo threads, or the hundreds of other cars with FAR more decibels in their cars than I will ever have.

I don't drive around that often with the targas off anyway.I also don't intend on having the system at permanent full whack. It's built for sound quality not so much quantity. By the time all the sound deadening and padding is in place, there will not be too much to be heard from outside the car when it's all shut up.

If a was heading for a 1/4 mile race or a spin around silverstone, it just plain won't be in the car.

All in all, :online2long: yes, I've researched the hell out of it. After all, safety first.

There are some people who do have a genuine passion for the Z and those also genuinely interested in modifying though. For those, I will persevere with the updates. Ive seen far too many chased off the boards because their mods have been likened to eg a toddlers green potty followed by continuous barrages of insults.

I thoroughly expect plenty to absolutely hate it when it's done, and some may love it. ... all I can say to that is welcome to modifieds lol

It will be lit up like a Christmas tree

It will have a lairish bodykit, oversized spoiler, skirts, vented bonnet

It will have a lairish paint job and graphics

work look's great, i wouldnt know where to start with a build like this, look forward to the update's

...lol glad to see thats all done and dusted anyways on with topic. lots of work gone into that well done look forward to seeing the finished product. i can understand the concerns with the targas, and i know you have said your not planning on doing quater miles etc, but none of us know when were gonna have to slam the ancors on, i hope they are as secrue as youve planned. hard to say without seeing it in real life. good luck with your project though.

Yeah, you can see a lot better in this video, which was posted in the second thread Rose started, the targas are pretty well trapped in there by the boot struts and the shape of the boot itself, that's not to say she isn't planning other stuff to keep them still though ;)

Thanks. If it doesnt feel safe I have no shame in tearing the build down to do it again - getting old at 36 now, turning into a bit of an old granny with safety but not quite ready to kill myself :death:

I'll get it properly looked at for a professional opinion or 2 before really using them and adjust the design where needed. If only for the stamp of approval before any grief I get for driving around with the kids.... believe me, that's one war I want to avoid.

Maybe i'll send the pics and vids off to mythbusters when am done

No, the boot struts miss at each side by about 15mm, otherwise the boot wouldnt shut.

Finishing some sound dampening and the boot floor today, but will take and mark up some pics of specifically what I intend for very visible extra security on the targas which will hopefully put this concern to bed.

Yes the boot struts miss, but are in the way of them flying forward ;) Not a complete stopper granted, but they're in the way.

I think an easy fix if its needed, is to create, like a roof spoiler, but inside the top of the hatch, bit of wood and fibreglass to mould the panel, so would look good and be practical, probably only need to be a few inches protruding to act as a stopper.

You could also add some leds along the line of it to act as a nice downlight feature.

I think that is one of the things she's considering graham, so you've hit the nail on the head there.

Nail on the head :) ... you got the plan.

I'm pulling at the boot lid plastic for the lighting anyway. Also, thought of making a spot for my Galaxy tab in the middle of it.... hmm I want the new Galaxy tab so could just us my existing one there.

Needs a sim though .... hummm perhaps not - the phone ring is LOUD, and dont want two of them at it lol..... I'll have to have a thunk (thunk, not think purposeful)

bloody hell, that was one hell of a read. Finally found the thread where i can reply.

I think its amazing how you have got it set up to fit the targas in, really clever. :thumbup1:
