Petrol Smell

Strong smell of petrol under the bonnet, even after driving 20-30 miles. Hoses between the fuel filter and plennum area were all replaced about six months ago with some decent clips that can be properly tightened. Any ideas where else to look.

Perversely fuel comsumption is ridicoulsy low with the fuel warning light coming on at 330 miles despite me trying to hammer the hell out of here recently. Power does also seem down.

Check the fuel pressure regulator for discolouring/leaking . Had the same problem the smell of petrol got stronger and stronger over time eventually fuel started pissing out the regulator.

330 miles?

Is that bad for you. I'm lucky if I get 280 miles from a tank full!

I would not call the 330 miles bad, but perplexing. When she was younger I used to hit about 270 miles before the warning light came on.

I was wondering if the low fuel consumption and the shortage of power (I was left standing by a Cavalier SRI a couple of days. The shame of it!!!) could be related. Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator might be the problem.

One more place to check (have seen a lot of Zeds with this problem):

Take the centre panel off (the one that says Nissan and Twin Turbo) and have a look under the throttle body linkage (the rod that connects the left and right throttle body assemblies). There is one fuel hose under there that is very difficult to get to and it frequently is the culprit. Use a very thin and long screw driver to get to the clips if you don't want to remove the TB assembly.

Hope this helps.
