Hi Guys

My Zed is having another of it's temperamental moments, and the old girl seems to throw up some wierd (to me) problems!

I did realise I had auto-folding door mirrors as on an odd occasion I have folded the passenger one in and when turning on the ignition it folded out

Today I started the car and both mirrors fold in. The passsenger one keeps making a clicking noise and motor keeps whirring

If I pull that one slightly further in it clicks again but at least the motor whirring stops

I've tried starting the car with both mirros pulled all the way in - and they don't fold out, if I thin push the drivers side one out it keeps wanting to fold in again and the continuous whirring noise comes back on the passenger one (unless I pull it that last bit in)

Several restarts later I am now wondering how do I get the damn mirrors to stop folding in all the time?

PS paid my subs for this fine site today as it already saved me more money than the subs cost and I believe in being fair (wink wink) does that get me even faster answers too :whistling:

Thats not a standard feature! Normally you have a switch by the centre consol arm rest that you can control the mirrors to fold in or out and also adjust the mirrors. Electric mirrors are standard on jap imports but not on uk spec Zeds. If you dont have the switch im guessing the Jap spec mirrors have been fitted and wired to your ignition or maybe there is a switch installed else where? The mirrors when knocked make a clicking noise but soon correct themselvs when you operate them from the switch. Hope this helps?

Also if the mirrors is set to fold in! The mirrors will automatically fold in every time even if you pull them out

Sorry to hijack this thread......but does anyone elses mirrors 'wobble' at speed?.....my drivers side one does and not sure if its something they all do :)

Does it fold in ok? If not its more than likely held up by screws :(

Yeah, they fold in and out perfect on the switch, drivers side just seems to move a bit at anout a ton (on a private road, obviously ;) ).

There should be 2 screws under the mirror that might need tightening up.

Sounds like someone has tried the auto mirror fold mod and failed or there is a short somewhere. If they work off the switch fine then take off the door cards and check the plug and wiring for the mirrors.

There are 3 screws which hold the mirror motor plate to the arm, if like one of mine did and the plate cracked then they might have used longer screws to hold the mirror on, but not enough to stop it wobbling.

The mirrors should be solid at any speed.

So thats what the little switch on the centre console does, the one that wasnt there on my other zed.... the one I must have accidentally rested my elbow on.

Where's that 'blush' emoticon?

lol Glad you've got it sorted.

Must admit, I read this thread yesterday and could'nt understand some of the replies - talking about Jap mirrors on a UK..etc ,and nobody had suggested the Switch. I Figured people knew something I didn't about your car from other threads so I didn't reply.
