HELP!!! Z is on its arse..

Guys I need HELP

I have a 90TT with a strostek cone and 60mm lowersprings ( yes 60mm ) Fitted when I bought it. To make matters worse the current springs have brackets fitted to increase the ride height as I used to scrape it to work and back not drive it.. Anyway I have twatted it on a speed bump a caused a lot of damaged to the cone and the 2 wings. £3000 later Its back together including being painted but I am scared to drive it out of the booth until I have raised her. I bought some 35mm AVO springs from Demon Tweaks after striping down my current set-up, only to find they did not fit, So back to Demon tweaks to get another set, Tried them and wrong size again..WTF.. All this happened over a two-week period so u can guess my frustration. Demon Tweaks are now saying the springs dont fit because it a Jap import and because I have scratched them with the spring compressor they cannot give me a refund..

(The AVOs) Front springs both have same size ends, very small and will not fit over the Koni shocks.

Back springs are massive and look like something from the magic roundabout, they are about 7 inches wide and the current springs are only 4-5 inches wide, there is also a difference of 6 inches in height. So now Iam left with my car on its arse and a set of springs from a fucken JCB. HELP..

Q.. Do UK and JAPs used the same spring size, as I cannot see the body being different

I have spoken to AVO who tell me that they only do one type and there is something strange about my car.

Can somebody PLEASE shed some light on this..

The front springs are thicker and shorter.

Are you sure you didn't mount the fronts on the back and vice versa?

could do with some pictures ideally daveyboy.

from the description, it sounds like your Z might have been fitted with a coilover setup, which completely replaces the standard macpherson type strut setup

if thats the case, then you will need to get different shocks and mounts as well.

quickest/cheapest/easiest way for this is to get in touch with people breaking Z's in the for sale section.

alternatively, post info on your location and maybe someone will come down with their Z so you can compare and see the differences ?

Cheers guys

Craig there not coilovers but there not the original struts neither, The struts fitted are Koni Sport adjusables, and the current springs are RED.Does that help you in any way

I have the Koni reciepts from 1999 they were bought from DC Cook Motorsport @ Silverstone, I have rang them but they have moved away. Does this mean I have to buy another complete set??? As these cost £600 when new..Anyone up for a deal

I had a similar problem with the AVO springs a couple of weeks ago. I have a 1990 UK spec Z32 and ordered the 35mm springs direct from AVO.

On arrival I had the front shocks stripped and ready for the new springs, but as you found they did not fit (I have standard

struts). The rear springs were as you found HUGE in diameter compared to the original springs.

Anyway, phoned AVO directly and they said they have never had any problems with this in the past. On AVO`s official site they do two sets of springs for the 300zx. One set from 1986 - 1991 and the other from 1991 -1997. I assume that the first set is for the Z31 and the second for the Z32.

As my zed and yours is a 1990 model, the springs are probably for a Z31. Returned the springs and asked for a refund. Next day went to my local tuning shop and as it happened they had just recieved a set of AVO springs for a customer with a Z32. His was a 1991 model and on inspecting the springs were different to the ones I had recieved.

Ordered the later spec springs (1991 -1997) via the dealer but I am still waiting for them as they have ran out of stock.

Hope this helps.

BTW ther website address is www.avouk.com

Cheers Ron I will be taking them back to DT tommorrow, PS have you got any pictures of what the original struts and springs look like so I can compare and show DT.

Cheers

Ronnie I have just spoken to Nigel @ AVO who is supprised to hear about the mixup and has asked for any part No's if u have any as he is looking into this matter.

His springs are from 1984-1991 as u know the Z32TT was born in 89 so why is there a overlap.

Daveboy

The springs that I got were part no. 60-016 for 300zx 1984-1991. (in my previous post I wrongly put that part no. as 1986-1991)

The ones that I have on order are no. 60-010 for 300zx 1991-1997, despite my zed being a 1990 model. The dealer who I am purchasing them from, did speak to AVO and suggested that there was a mistake in their application list.

Should recieve them sometime this week. Hopefully they will be the correct ones.

Unfortunately I dont have any pics.
