Following on from my "Whats it worth thread", I wondered what kinda money

people have thrown at a 20yr old car, I know as with any enthusiasts car there instant money pits, And ive come to the conclusion im never buying a project again!!! Without including the cost of the car or general service items ive had a tally up today and im at £14,885 since October 09. I know ive prob missed stuff aswell. Christ you can pick up a complete modded car now for half that. So why do we bother???????

I know its all down to personal circumstances on what people can afford but are we nuts or what???

Just wondering what other peoples thoughts were?

my Z owes me about £5.80. i'm sure i had it last time i was in the car, now it vanished :-)

I remember about 8 years ago I was on my way to buy an M3 about 6 months old and costing a fortune. I saw a blue 300zx on the forecourt and thought I'd have a little look. It was a Uk spec 1995 at £6500 which I bought and all in all I think it was a better car than the M3 and i managed 3 years out of that and sold it for a tidy sum. I guess I saved myself about £30K but have spent that and more on my current slicktop. Having said that, I was thinking about buying a GTR 35 so all in all I haven't done too bad and rather than sell and lose a few quid I'll keep it and I'll have a perfect track car :) My navara cost £28K four years ago and is worth probably around £8K now so it's not so different. If you want to do it right just buy a nice unmolested one like my vert and see it appreciate in value over the next 10 years or so lol.

overall last time i worked out my expenses on the zx i had spent a little over 15k and its nowhere near finished, and doesnt even have a engine in it yet.

But i dont care bout the money, i do it cos i love my zx and its my hobby.

i dont care what ive spent on mine, i dont care what its worth as i bought it as my own fun project just for me lol, i will never sell it regardless of my circumstances, its a labour of love and if you love the zed, then it shouldnt matter.

If someone wants something reliable or doesnt cost too much money to run, then buy a fiesta

Just my opinion of course

;}

All parts on my car were obtained through sexual favors and the labour done by myself. So its either the cheapest or the most expensive.

Hey, at most recent count my car is sitting at just over £12k. The joys of buying a car with a few smoke issues - I replaced blowing exhaust immediately and added wheels and bodykit, eventually it all led to engine expiring on motorway hard shoulder and then I replaced engine, uprated turbos, I/c's and other bits and bobs. Not too sure how it got that high, but it is scary how it happened and it's still not finished. Explains why I have no money and large debts. May be time to sell up!

A fortune!!!! Im sure I would take this award (if it was one) hands down then cry that the car is worth less than a Ford Capri or something.

I did go way over the top on it, would say it is one of the finest running examples of overpriced bits on a 300 anywhere... sobs. My wheels on there own cost what most decent Zeds sell for. And most of the money was spent on the mechanicals lol.

I think on a rough guestimate about £8K now and counting, including buying it. That also includes the parts I've bought which then needed to be scrapped or sold on at a loss, bits that are still laying around waiting to be fitted, etc. I don't care, I've done it before and I'll probably do it again. Roses car owes us nearly the same, but was much more expensive to buy and had different issues to mine.

I know that feeling. just my wheels ans suspension are nearly 5k. And i know if i were to sell them id probably get less than 1k back.

i remember when i first got the zed 10 yrs ago and spent 6k on wheels and tyres and imported the veilside c2 kit that was the start of it and ive gone on from there but will say this its been reliable in 10 yrs doing about 5 k each year apart from last 2 years when i got divorced and it had to go in hiding lol even still running on same engine 160000 miles same tubs and been running 1 bar boost from day one , engine tired now though smokes a little but hence the slow rebuild been in progress , now ready to fit this winter :0)

get ready

Thought I'd put mine in as I'm sure some of the long standing members remember my old blue zed that I spent around 20 grand fixing. I'm sure the comment in my sig was added in 2007.

Now the other week i started trying to see what I'd spent on it. Now I'm at over 30 grand in what I can remember and could find. Mist of that not including labour and various other stuff that cost loads but can't remember.

So really I could be well over the 40k mark without realising.

Now here's the crap bit. When u look at my car, then look at jasons beast you gotta think my efforts have been completely wasted.
