178mph :)

is that with a similar set up daz . obviously on a private road:wink:

I've ridden passenger in a zed with similar mods to that, it went off the clock. How accurate the clock was is anybodies guess though.

180 can be achived with a pretty much stock car, the final drive ratio and therefore ultimate top speed iis around 210 I dont think many would hit that though. Top speed is irrelivant in any case.

In 18 months of ownership I've never been over 150. If the opportunity presented itself I would be tempted, but I've never felt the need to go and find out. You really need to be absolutely sure your tyres are in perfect condition though - if you had a blow out at those speeds, the emergency services would be looking for body parts, not a body.

Very true, I'd be looking at the sills, suspension, wheel bearings the lot tbh, because at those speeds, ALL of it's going to be under a lot of stress.

How fast?? ... fast enough mate... lets be honest, when are you ever going to max it out?

i agree mate . as i said my bottle went way before i was anywhere near those speeds . its just a curiosity thing knowing how fast the old girl would go . i,d never max her out even if i had a 3 mile stretch of private road . any ideas on the 0-60 times as we all do these .

i remember a while back a for sale thread on here for a timer that sat in the car recording 0-60 , bhp and various other readings . not sure what to search for on ebay but would be nice to have one

TBH there was a reason Nissan limited the car to 155, and i know i had to see if mine was limited but i didn't go much higher, still had more to give (on a private road of course.) and mines the same set up apart from a custom exhaust and a HKS mushroom filter

cheers paul . thats the fella im after. and thanks for the info on the brake upgrade . i was looking at mine again today and parked next to a fiesta you could hardly see any difference in rotor and caliper size . i know the original wheels were 16 inch but for a car running 280bhp as standard i cant help but feel that nissan fell way way short of fitting the zed with the brakes that it needs to haul in them horses

i tested mine the other day on airfield .. my speedo is spot on with satnav but

my car hit the limiter at 155 there abouts

i thought the limit gets removed when a kph>mph converter is used

or is this done on the ECU chip as i have a mod'd one in

  • Author

i thought both the converter and the new chip would remove the limiter .

thats what i thought .. its defo a limiter as it will accelerate right up to that speed then go no more put your foot down even more does nothing

its not a loss of power or running out of steam as it gets there very fast

155mph is the 'gentlemens agreement' limit for German cars. There's isn't a 155mph limit on jap cars...it's 112kph or in theory if you convert it to mph without removing the limiter 112mph........Think the above is correct!

imports were 112 but UK cars were limited to 155 ;)

Probably more to do with encouraging "responsible" driving (which became more prevalent around 1990-ish; see below) rather than the limit of the car's capabilities. This was, after all, a sports GT car built from the ground up to go fast - and not just a "fast version" of an ordinary car.....

Again, this came about circa 1990 (to encourage "responsible" driving) as some autobahns are still unrestricted.

But not all German manufacturers signed up. It's really only Mercedes and BMW - Porsche does not restrict its cars to 155mph (never has to my knowledge) and Audi certainly did not restrict the R8 - although they may have done with "lesser" cars!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
