A friend of mine is looking at a 3000gt, i just wondered if many people on here had had one and what they thought of it. He wants a manual twin turbo with the 6 speed box. Is there anything big to look out for?

I looked for a 3000gt forum but couldnt seem to find much. There was gtouk.org.uk but TBH it looked VERY quiet so wondered if there was a more active forum?

i had a 92 GTO and the forums seemed pretty quiet as well plus not many specialist parts places. It was a great car but for the money is alot better options about so i never intended on keeping it long i think it was 3 months lol but a good profit

gtouk.org.uk is indeed the main UK club.

Never owned one, but I have worked on and driven a couple. Vowed never to work on one again tbh....every little job was painfully more difficult than it is on a Z.

In regards to the driving....big, heavy, comfy, dull. Didn't like the interior and found the experience a bit underwhelming.

Comparable on paper to the Z, and there are quite a few comparison reviews of it and the other Jap super sports, but its always been a bit of an underdog compared to the Z and Supra.

like changing spark plugs you have to take off the inlet manifold on top of the engine now what a crap design. You can do the turbos in situ though

That seems fairly promising, with the rate he is going through them i dont suspect it'll last much more than 6 months so he might be ok with not needing to many specialists!

Hmm I had been told they were a bit dull to drive, I wish he would go and test drive one first!. Yeah I had found that one but it seemed very quiet, we had seen that buying guide cheers though.

I can imagine they are a pig to work on, do you know of any specialists in the northwest or even just north incase he does need some work doing on one?

I sent off for my membership to that gto forum hopefully once your a member its better. As for the car I really like it. Yep its big, infact its massive. If your not expecting a nimble, small sports car than I think your mate would like it, has alot of presence. For the money cant go wrong.

best advice i can give is dont get one ! they eat transfer boxes and are even more complicated than the zed but are quite nice to drive

Yep this one has just had a new transfer box put in, with the amount of miles I cover should be good till im not :)

Trouble with living in London is ive not be able to get above 2nd gear. Around town seems to have a serious petrol leak, if you squint you can see pound notes metamorphosing into vapours through the rear view mirror. Think it needs feeding more then my Z. :(

Cool i think he will enjoy it, he doesnt drive stuff that hard to be honest mainly rumbles about with the odd bit of straight line speed. Sounds perfect for him haha

Ah right, i'll let him know hes looking at buying a nice one, full history UK model etc with a warranty and that so hopefully should be OK.

Indian zx has one

Thats who it was I knew one guy had one!

I will update you about that forum you have to pay by cheque then wait for snail and clearance first. So will be atleast a week before I can check it out.

the active aero has a tendancy to fail and stick Chris. transfer boxes as mentioned are prone to failire , they are as brittle as china if thrashed ..but if serviced fully and and driven like a GT then they are great motors with lots of LOOK AT ME about them ...interior is very marmite but a lot of technology for the money, Mitsubishi used every technological trick in the book and then some to be viable against the z32 and supra ...is it a white one he has been looking at Chris with black bonnet ??

Cheers for the feedback mate. As it turns out, by way of luck and circumstance he ended up not buying the black 3000gt we found and just stayed with his audi which was my original advice. Hes gone down the stage 1 mods route with that instead in the quest for more power!
