Starting to get a bit irritated by this now, seems like most of the time the engine is at operating temp the fan is roaring stupidly loud when the engine is revved. I thought it was only after being parked up due to a bit of heat soak maybe but today I noticed it was roaring away even after a motorway drive when I shifted it to 2nd on the exit ramp.

Can I assume that the viscous coupling has had it? Is there a test I can do?

Check your water levels, the water temp sensor is in a stupid place, the last time mine did it, the temp gauge showed fine, but there was at least 3 litres of water missing. Roses on the other hand the fan clutch died, I got a replacement from Gonzo for about £25 delivered :D

with the engine off can you turn the fan easily when warm ?

try it cold you should feel the difference

Ok so it's fairly tight to turn when cold, start the engine up and it makes a bunch of noise for about 10 seconds before it calms down and is nice and quiet.

I drove the car for 20 minutes at no slower than 40mph, after a short while it got noisy again.

I tried to spin it again after parking up and it was just as tight as it was when cold before, left it 15 mins with the bonnet open to cool off, no difference still.

Hmm, can't see why that could be. It's got fresh coolant, new water pump, good condition radiator. Dash gauge never moves from the middle. Still, i'll run it with the datascan on and see what the temperature is saying. It's always pretty f'kin hot under the bonnet but that's just what zeds are like :confused1:
