New member - Stange Noise from Engine Compartment

Have started to hear a stange noise (quite loud at times) from the just in front of passengers bulk head when coming of boost. It makes no difference if car is cold or warm and generally only makes the noise when coming of boost slowly. The noise sounds like valve or filter reeding, a bit of a fog horn sounding noise. Crap discription i know. Only seems to be coming from passenger side. If i boost up quickly and let off quickly, its generally not so noticeable.

I know people have had probs with re-circulating values. This could be one, but seems closer to bulkhead than right up front.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced same noise and if so was it cured and how.

Cheers

Assuming you have an aftermarket air intake and / or increased boost, the noise is normal - it's a 300zx characteristic. If it really bothers you than apparently replacing your recirc valves with normal dump valves is said to get rid of it (or perhaps mask it ?).

However, the jury is out on whether dump valves are an improvement on engine performance or protection. All seem to agree they make a good noise though !

Thanks for the reply Dave

The car is totally standard. No mods at all. Has been making the noise for a couple of months, concerned it maybe turbo probs.

They are surposed to be more of a high pitch squeel. This is just a dull noise. Just sound like trouble i guess.

What or where is the noise coming from? Is it the unit or pipework too and from it?

Maybe a replacement might make the difference.

Russ my ZX makes exactly the same noise mate! had my Z for a year now and no problems with engine/turbos at all. Noticeable more if you increase speed gradually. I wouldn't worry too much...doesn't seem to affect my car and she's totally standard apart from OZ Racing 17" Split Rims...until I get the money to upgrade to a Mongoose, Blitz and let Jeff TT loose on it...about 1200 quid to do that I reckon!
