Hi all, anyone heard of this.... After about 10 minutes of driving (once the engine is running at normal temp), I get a very annoying squeal at slow speed coming from the the passenger front corner by the wheel. It gets louder if you turn the steering wheel to the left, and goes a bit quieter when turning to the right. It sounds as if the pads are sticking to the brake discs, but having checked them they seem okay. Could it be related to sort of CV joint going dry?? Any ideas????

It sounds too high pitched to be a bearing, its definitely something rubbing on something (ooh err!!) as its spinning. Someone suggested t could be the brakepad pins touching the disc, but I've checked that.

Chris,

The bearing went on my old 200 (yes I had one!) and it was a high pitched noise, sounded like a jet engine....wierd sound.

It was just an uneducated thought, I have lots of them....LOL

Have you tried to get the suspected wheel up in the air and then rotate it manually ?

Maybe this way you'll be able to pin point the problem better.

By the way...you're sure that it isn't the brakepads ?

The pad located on the back of the rotor has little metal pins that will scrape/rub the rotor as soon as the pad is almost worn out, which makes a very high pitched squealing noise.

You can't really see it, unless you remove the brakepads.

I've tried it with the wheel in the air and its fine. As I said it only happens after I have driven it for a while. The best description of how it sounds is a buckled wheel on a push bike knocking against the pad every second it goes round, obviously speeding up as the wheel turns quicker. I don't think the disc is warped as I never have braking problems. Bloody Weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a wheel bearing go recently, went to ATS, put car up on ramps and then as the guy rotated my wheel he told me to place my finger on the suspension strut. You can feel the vibration...sure way to be sure!

Hope you get it sorted.

my guess would be the bearing cause i would think it only squeals when the bearing is hot from friction
