God luck mate, think the water leak will be an advisory at worst, I think they are more concerned about fuel/oil leaks as it fouls the road surface, keep us posted!

bottom of my blocks covered in oil all i got was an advisory!, doubt there would be robs with water!, just get the leak done for your own sake!

A mate of mine is a forman at a very large bus depot so were gonna throw the car over a pit tonight and find where it is and fix, its only a minor one but yes will deffo be getting it sorted ASAP.

engine, gearbox, diff etc leaks are not part of the test.

Only steering systems/suspension/fuel leaks would be a failure

They can't fail it, but can give an advisory (or they used to be able to, I've had one), purely because from a safety point of view, you don't want oil leaking onto the road... Anyways, yer Zed'll be reet mate :)

Good luck mate, I know what this is like, having a Z off the road for ages whilst fixing it, then taking it to the MOT after all the work that's gone into it.

Well.... Did it pass ?

Hope so after all the work you've put in

No it failed :( gutted

Failed on

fog light switch, ( if you turn the foglight switch on all the interior clock and pod lights come on for some reason??) ill have to check that sat

cracking on both rear tire walls (where its been stood for a year) I didnt even think to check it.

Play in the pass side adjustable camber arm (will take a look at weekend)

very small patch of welding needed on a rear sill seam aswell which I hadnt noticed so ill do that sat morning.

Advisories

Power steering leak (found the prob split in the hose to pass pot) will fix at weekend

minor play in steering rack bushes

minor play in front anti roll bar bushes

could have been worse I guess got 10 days to fix for free retest, just need to find some 265,35zr18s cheap :( for the rear

then i loose it on the 20th for some paint touch up's coz the last job wasnt good enough, had to threaten the body shop with legal action if they didnt fix their screw ups.

Craig if you have wired the rear fog to the fog switch on the pod, then all the sidelights and dash lights will also illuminate, so its supposed to work that way, unless the examiner wants to see, just the rear fogs on, then you will need a seperate illuminated switch. Iluminated meaning an led or tell tale sign that the rear fog is on.

The front fogs on a jap obviously are not part of an MOT, but if you are going to use that switch then as i said the side lights and dash lights will also light

HTH

zx-tt, if you need any work doing on your car, my mate paul runs s-body automotive hes round your way and has some skills, he drifts for team green falken in the g35 powered by 2jz, can trust him with anything

That's not too bad bud. Think Andy Ish has a contact for cheap part worns. Might be worth asking him.

cheers chap, thats great just confirms i hadnt wired it wrong, he did say slip in a 20 and he would ignore it, i said sod off unless your gonna ignore the rest lol

Cracking tyres ? unless its got a lump, buldge or tear causing seperation or lifting of the tread thats not a fail.If the cords are exposed its a fail but if not an Advisory only.Loads of cars have cracked tyres especially womes i used to find cus tthey dont drive hard enough to wear them out.

  • Author

no cord exposed the guy used a small flat scredriver tipe thing a prodded it in to the tiny cracks, I reckon if i took it somewhere else it would probably pass

A bit of ballache but if you want to borrow my wheels to get you through the free retest then you are welcome. Then buy tyres when you have funds.

cheers fella appreciate the offer, gonna take it to another mot place i think coz i reckon this guy was being a little over enthusiastic.

Right, PS leak and Upper camberarm fixed at 6 this morning, small patch of welding being done tonight, got another MOT tester having alook at the tires tonight (want a definate there fooked before replacing) bloody annoying as tires are like new tread wise. Well see what happens.

Good luck mate, I've had MOT testers bulk up the fails on me before now, I ended up finding one I trust to do the MOTs and the mechanical work and now always use him, regardless of the vehicle. He's never let me down yet.
