My New Stillen Type 3 lip - the whole story!!

Well peeps for those who are interested here is the full nine yards!!

This has always been one of my favourite Z photos-

I think Nissan got the front end almost right from day one apart from 4 small things.

1. The tram lines that run along the top edge of the bumper (I don't know what it is with nissan and two lines!! - don't get me started on 99 spec rear lights!!)

2. The bars in the intercooler ducts were too fussy.

3. The side profile had a bit of an overbite.

4. That bloody stone guard!

So I decided to look around at 99 spec, Greddy Gracer, Twinz, Abflug etc but found myself wanting to keep things faithfull to the old design.

After speaking to Mike Feaney back in 2009 he suggested I looked up the Stillen lip for the TT. Then I saw Mad Marco had one on his N/A and was impressed with the build quality and flexibility as it was made from Polyurethane. I then ran into John Dixon at one of the many events organised by the Zclub and saw this -

Hmmmmmmm.............. Half way to where I'd like to be. Again the overwhelming argument was that this (the TT type 3) was also made from polyurethane.

Did a bit more research and found these pictures of a car in the States-

Almost what I was looking for but still had the tram lines and the two bars in the intercooler ducts plus a new problem of the back of the lip having too sharp a corner on it!!

Thanks to a photoshop by Jaikia we know had all but one problem solved!!

Look very closely!!! -

Just one small issue to be sorted by continuing the black bottom lip up in a curve to make it look less sharp and tie in with the front of the sill on the other side of the wheel arch.

And now for the finished results!!! (just and excuse to put up loads of piccies!!!)

Looks absolutely faptastic andy... best front end on the forum IMO... :thumbup1:

Well not on tis actual thread just yet but thanks for popping in!!!

:hang: Lol

Back on track as they say! Really admire your constant attention to fine detail mate and always with the right end result, top marks

smithy

Having seen this zed close up it is a well sorted and the front bumper looks very nice Andy has a good eye for detail and knows were he is going with this zed I look forward to his updates and he deserved the trophies he won at JAE I like the one lowest of the low award:thumbup:nice one Andy:biggrin:

ive looked at the stillen afew times and i too thought about removing teh intercooler bars, the only thing i didnt like is teh way is sits so bluntly, if i sat further back and the lip came up level with the upper deck of bumper then it would be spot on, ive thought of making my own a few times but i havent ever done anything like that before.

Looks great Andy. Never been a fan of the stock front bumper, but your changes have updated it very well !

.........as for the hat though..

Thats just the look I want for my zeds front bumper

Did it cost a fair bit to do mate?

Awesome

Tell that tw@t in the hat to get his hands of your car tho - cheeky fooker

Didn't realise how much work had gone into it - no wonder you wanted to show off, er, I mean show to everyone how you did it! Its a real masterpiece.

What you have done is enhance what was already a beautiful design, rather than mutilate it beyond recognition. A well judged, immaculately presented Zed. Me jealous? Just a bit!

Stunning Andy mate. I can't decide whether yours or Gary Wilson's IMMACULATE shorty is my new favourite Z.

Hmm, close call, but loving your work Andy :)

Looks great buddy, fantastic finish in the end - now just get rid of those horrible gold centre wheels and get them painted in anthracite

NOOOOOOOO!! I think the wheels suit the car perfectly as they are, grey centres wouldn't compliment the body colour at all IMO :)

well well young man... that is some "story"... an old saying comes to mind as honestly Andy, i feel this thread is a response to the comment i made at JAE that you copied my idea: Methinks the lady doth protest too much!

Homo!

I like it Andy. But reckon Pabs is on the money!!

Shall I try sorting a localish mini meet? Need to see it in the flesh.

Cheers Gary. Back at you my friend. Your Shortie is very much my cup of tea also.

Not sure what you mean bud but just find someone who can work with polyurethane and get it just as you want it. Good luck and keep us informed!!

Go for it! You're looking at £220ish for the lip from Mike at MJP delivered to your door. I can get my guy to do the tram line delete, intercooler duct bars delete, indicator smoke, fix fog ducts or smoke fog lights, attaching the lip including polyurethane welding!! (never even new it existed!), paint the black strip and bottom lipwith the curve at the back edge for around £400.

That is quite cheap for the amount of work and the finish he does!!

I can let you have his number if you want to chat to him.

Awesome

Stuck for word on your last comments, thank you very much!!

Choose me!! I give blood at the orphanage every Saturday! Gary tortures puppies for fun!!

Cheers mate, can't decide on the wheel colour..... may end up silver??

Don't encourage him!!! Mini meet sounds good, I know Mr Burns is up for it. Early start up to Santapod this saturday if you are up for it?

It is a really nice bumper. I really like what you've turned an original bumper in to :)

My favourite bit is the removal of the lines at the top of the bumper it makes a huge difference to the look whilst making it look really clean lined. A big thumbs up IMO!

You need to change your sig now!

If you've got that black bar at the front you want to run that through to the back so black/dark dark grey wheel centres then a black gloss diffuser on the rear to finish it off :)

Exactly!! Those bloody tram lines have annoyed me since 1992!! Finally got my own back with Mr two-lines from Nissan!!

I will change my siggy soon!
