need to understand how to top up my auto gearbox , and be sure i have the correct level, do i have to do this with the engine hot or cold , running or turned off etc etc, any help appreciated

You top up using a funnel through the autobox dipstick at the rear of the engine, drivers side. An empty box, empty torque convertor will take around 8 litres, best to stick a few litres in at a time and check the level using the dipstick.

There are hot and cold marks on the dipstick, so you dont have to run the engine or have the ign on to top up.

When you hit the cold level on the dipstick, run the engine until up to temp and check level again and top up as necessary.

and also after doing that, with your foot on the brakes and handbrake on (obviously :) put the gear selector in each gear/position for a good 10 seconds, then re-check level...

my local garage did box fluid change and rang nissan as to the correct amount of fluid they insisted on 8ltrs but no mention of a empty box and torque converter they just said 8 ltrs so thats what went in and guess what there was a ''slight'' overfill Itwas redrained and eventually 2.5ltrs so much for nissan mechanics!!!! namely evans halshaw in middleborough
