I have a '90 TT. My oil pressure guage oftem seems to read low. So I am looking at replacing the sender unit. Now the unit on the car has a blue plastic part the loom plugs in. On the spare one I have, which is off a Jap import, it has a yellow end. Are there any differences in the two of them?? My scale reads in psi, Jap scales are in kg/cm2 are they not?? Does this make a difference?

Many thanks in advance.

Robert

Hi Robert changed my sender for same reason last week om my Jap import and fitted a new UK spec from Nissan works fine much nicer to see 25 to 30 psi at tickover (have a UK speddo fitted) instead of a big fat zero!! Jeff TT

OK then. I changed oil & filter on Wednesday, and also fitted another sender unit. I still have the same oil pressure when starting from cold, about 100psi, but after a run to get things nice and warm, the needle NEVER reads any lower than 25psi on tickover (900rpm). Now that's more like it! On the motorway @ 3000rpm, guage is showing around 50-55psi. No more heart-in-mouth at traffic lights with guage reading 0!!!

A quick and easy fix for anyone who has 'low' oil pressure.

I suppose the BEST way to check your oil pressure is to fit a cappilary guage and scrap the stock one alltogether, just use the 1/8 bsp thread on the oil line.

Hi Guy's

Same problem on mine, can you give ma a clue as to where the sender unit is and what does it look like. How much is the sender.

Thank you Dave.

Timmy replaced the sender unit it was around £80 frown.gif.

Dave,

the sender unit is on the left-hand side of the engine. It is underneath, so you will need to jack the car up to see it. It is attached to an oil line from the L/H turbo. The sender is shaped round, metal cased, but has a plastic bottom where the loom plugs in. My UK bottom was yellow, the Jap sender I replaced it with had a blue bottom. This is covered by a black rubber cover. you can change the sender without removing anything else using 14mm (I think) open ended spanner.

Hope this helps Dave.

Robert.
