As title are they better then the oe pipes?

Purchased my car back as most will know and Dave added a set of hardpipes with red hoses and to be honest they look out of place under my bonnet!

If the hard pipes are a better bet does any body know where i could purchase some black hoses to replace the red ones, or any body want to swap:whistling:

Send a pm to Anthonyd on here,, he works with SFS hoses, he,s your man

I was told under heavy boosting std hoses suck them selfs in so you loose alot of air flow.

They won't suck in under pressure!:whistling:-the oe pipes go brittle and crack, especially at the ends, causing leaks.

:no:I put brand new ones on the car 2 years ago!

Best i find out if the previous owner still has them then!

So no real reason for them really accept for looks??

hard pipes are a performance upgrade. cant remember exactly why but its something to do with the rubber contracting or absorbing 'or something' whereas hardpipes help the flow.

I really cant remember, can you tell

The stock pipes are absolutely fine, and have no concernable contraction of expansion.

The cheap single ply aftermarket intake pipes are terrible though, and suffer badly in a hot engine bay - Should be avoided at all costs.

The Aftermarket hardpipe kits are basically for looks. They would fit in a lot better with black silicone joiners.

hard pipes as said are mainly for looks except for the radiator hard pipe kit ....the bottom pipe is prone to collapsing through time and reducing flow through the rad therefore effecting cooling so a hard pipe upgrade on there is a definate plus

The intake hardpipe kit will hold more heat (from the engine bay) than rubber/silicone, therefore reducing the cooling effect from the intercooler, but only very marginal. Some say it is not an upgrade at all.

But I still got them on my zed.... :whistling:

Thanks guys I am now a little wiser:thumbup:

Looks like I am keeping them but going from red to black.

Before I buy a set any body want to swap!

I'll swap, 4 perfect rubber ones? (6 actually, got two spare...)

What hoses to replace hard pipes or just the hose connection pieces that fit on the end of the hard pipes??

hoses to replace the hard pipes :)

Are they new?

If not probably buy either new ones or keep the hard pipes but change the red hoses to black

Hard pipes are a good upgrade when you're running much higher boost, the more boost you run, the more the standard rubber and even replacement after market silicon hoses will flex. Once the hoses get weak, they do actually start to suck in under very high pressure, because they leak and this causes a reverse vacuum effect. Basically if running standard or just slightly raised boost, they give no real performance benefit, but if you slapped a couple of double sized turbos on and whacked up the boost, they make a big difference. Same as intercooler hardpipe kits etc. As for holding more heat, that can be a myth, if the engine is set up correctly and you buy a decent hard pipe kit, they actually keep the heat away from the air inside them by pushing it outwards. That all depends on the quality of the kit though you understand.

I'd say keep em, replace the hose sections with black or blue hosing, and then polish them up now and again before shows :D
