Hello everybody!

 

Been reading this forum for some time, now time for my first question.

 

I have been looking for a big brake kit, Stoptech and Hispec Monster 6 but also considering cheaper options such as K-Sport and D2.

 

Been e-mailing with Hispec and Stoptech and they have been helpful and most likely I am going to choose between these two.

 

So, any user experiences from Hispec Monster users? Stoptechs reputation as a good manufacturer is pretty obvious?

Oh, I forgot that! I do 3-4 trackdays a summer and so far brakes have faded every time and pads have been worn out almost one pair per trackday. I have 350 hp twinturbo so brakes take a lot of beating.

 

For road use I have no complaints about stock brakes but for trackday usage they just are not good enough.

id avoid d2's i havnt heard a good reveiw about them, get what you pay for in my opinion.

 

ap's are the nuts but youd be looking at 2.5-3k which is a bit exessive if your only gonna be really testing them 3 times a year!

 

hispec are pretty good quite helpfull too my mechanic's had loads of stuff custom made by them.

 

cant speak for stoptech i dont know anyone whos used them 2bh

 

a mate of mine was racing time attack in a honda integra and only using spoon calipers with standerd size carbon ceramic disc's and pads and he never had an issue thatd be a cheaper option maybe some gtr calipers with braided lines carbon discs and pads?

I'm using stoptech and they're great brakes. many of the time attack guys are using them so you know they're good for a bit of abuse.

There were some negative reviews and experiences about Hispecs but they were quite old reviews. Maybe there has been some quality problems but I hope they are left behind. Also there were complaints about customer service but my experiences have been very good so far.

 

Stoptech seem little more expensive but have a very good reputation (no quality problems)? Of cource there are aerorotors that seem very interesting.

 

K-Sport/D2 (they seem to be the same basically): Have been reading some good reviews but their quality and long-term usage is bit unknown. So maybe not taking any risks that I have to buy another set if cheap ones fail after few years.

 

AP/Brembo, a bit too expensive.

iv got d2 330mm an love them only had them two months tho. there totaly rubbish wen cold and i realy rubbish.]BUT just get better and better the more you push them cant see them fading. and yes i do drive like iv stolen it. but im happy with them.

One driver here in finnish Nissan-club has tried K-Sports brakes and they seemed to work very fine.

i know willwood do (1 line for each of the 2 pistons on a 4 pot caliper) but i think it came with a tee cant be sure thogh it was a while ago now and i didnt fit them, speaking of which willwood are a nice mix of road and track use

I've got Ksport 8 pots (on pretty small 330mm'ish discs) up front on the shortie' at the moment with an unknown disc type with Nissan calipers on the rear and they seem decent enough for spirited 'B' road use.

I'm gonna' give them a run out on track in the next few weeks to see how they fair.

 

In the attic I've got a set of Ksport 6 pots (356mm discs) and a set of Ksport 12 pots (380mm discs) both with Ferrodo pads, that I'm planning on switching to afterwards for a direct comparrison to see which feels best and will post what I find.

 

Contrary to popular belief I think the Ksports will be way up there with Stoptech etc, when you consider the number of succesful Time Attack cars currently running a Ksport brake system.

The Ksport/D2 calipers (same product, different resellers) actually have a very good reputation here in the UK. When they were first released several years back there were a lot of apprehension about them and a few reports of early quality issues, but in general they are well regarded and a very popular choice. They used to be a lot cheaper than they are now, but as reputation has grown, so has the price. Still quite a lot cheaper than most other BBK's though. They are basically AP Racing copies.

 

Their coilovers on the other hand do not come with the same high regard.

 

You really cant go wrong with the Stoptech/Rotora option, or ofcourse the AP Racing setup.

 

Another option is these from Z1 that Jimmer pointed out the other day - Which are a good deal for a full front and rear setup with matching BMC.

when doing these big brake conversions do you somehow insert another brake line?? i have been led to believe that anything bigger than a 4 pot caliper will need 2 brake lines to feed it fluid and make it work correctly to what it was designed to???

 

Stock lines are retained, but the calipers typically have their own seperate looped feed for each side of the caliper block.

Are they monoblock calipers?

Ive had my ksports on now for 3 years and they are just as good today as they were the day i put them on.

 

Brakeing force is pritty much spot on and you cannot ask for anything more tbh. ive got 8pots 356mm on the fronts and 6pot 356mm on the rears :)

i think the newer model OF k SPORT with the black calipers not orange are also improved over the origional design, K sport dampers are very hard ive heard ...( soon find out as ive had them them fitted to mine )......ooops

I have stoptech and I bought them as they are designed to work with the cars original abs system. expensive but fantastic brakes.
