Well thanks to Steams, top bloke i must say. forgot how high the car would raise on standard height suspension, so had to pop the engine back in and adjust the load leveler, plus get the hoist lifting on all chains, these pictures were taken before id done that, the last well being taken after.

Next up, fit the new turbos, change me fancy stuff over, and get the new engine back in.

how hard is it to drop the front sub frame get the steering UJ out the way and get the gearbox and engine in in one go? as not too keen on trying to get a gearbox to mate with the engine from under the car with not much room, when on my own?

photos taken using my phone, as didnt trust me camera out there while getting oil everywhere. the wet patch in the engine bay is water from the front water pipes.

As i was on my own for the engine out, it just made more sense to remove the gearbox and do it the way i know, if id ran into any problems doing it by lowering the front subframe, i most likely would of just thrown a spanner at the thing lol

was indeed, though you could of told me you had a hicas delete lol, ive now got to change the power steering pump bracket over as mine doesnt fit with the hicas one on, shame i didn't realise before putting the engine in

lol i didnt know i had

how many man hours and wife labour... (lol my mrs wouldnt hold a spanner for all the gold in kingdom come) did it take to pull the block then. props on the work and nice to see steams giving you a hand aswel good comunity on here, even if some arnt to friendly.

took me on my own 7 hours to pull the engine and gearbox, but i had to keep stopping as i was under the car most of that, and people kepts stopping too look what was going on, kinda of got a bit paranoid about me tools when they did that.

also had to stop for a pee break and a tea break, plus talk to peeps looking.

but if i didnt have any interuptions, would take about 3 to 4 hours on my own to pull the engine and take the gearbox off so not too bad.

we had a bit of prep work today, had to get the turbos back on the engine, water pipes on, cam covers on, water by pass, plus loads of fun with moving the engine abour 50meters from my garage to the car, and the gearbox, then the fun of getting the engine in, which at one point didnt even look like it was going to happen lol

well your power steering pump was a lot smaller than mine with less attachments on it lol

check your breaker for a hicas lock out bar at the rear.

Gear box is now back on, if only just, its being held in place by 4 bolts at the moment, need to get the torque converter bolted to the drive plate yet, didn't know there was so much to a blooming N/A power steering pump, the bracket is smaller, and even the adjuster bracket is smaller as well, so had to change all that over as im using my Hicas at the moment.

But with the gearbox now back in place and at least bolted to the point i can get the rest of the bolts in, its now just a case of plumbing everything in correctly once the torque converter is bolted up, happy dayz.

Only thing thats a bit of a concern, is the gearbox oil pan has quite a bit of dentage going on, not sure what effect thats going to have on the gearbox and if ill be better off changing it for a non dented one.

but not long now and the car will be able to move on its own again, hopefully :)

Hey Miss Marple!!

Deffo drop that sump off anyway as I'm pretty sure a fluid change and clean is going to be a good idea. I have a spare sump cleaned and ready to go if you need one (also has the drain plug which is handy).

nice one and its moted etc??

taxed, mot runs out on saturday but should pass once the welding bits are patched and the fabled rear number plate bulb has been changed (3rd bloody zed ive had that problem with lol) and insurance was fully paid up when i took it out :)

Cheers Andy, i shall whoop it off once its all bolted back up and have a clean out, see what damage is there or isn't there, might just be a dented pan floor.

cool i bet you cannot wait. come along way since your silver na lol!!

tell me about it matey, im on my 5th zed, 2 i broke, 1 i swapped for a TT, one was working sweet but with body work issues, now this final one, new engine and gearbox,

going to get it a manual gearbox conversion next year anyway as i want it manual, Abflug type 4 on the front, a full respray when i get the sills done properly and the drivers side arch has a few bubbles. Meister R coil overs next year as well, plus getting the VIS racing carbon bonnet and a wheel refurb.

Well done vods, your cracking on with that mate, she will be a beauty when done, cant wait to see it at Jae if I make it ;)

nice one Vods

looking good matey,....keep it going bud soon be driving it around again

steve

yeah i know, cant wait, was going to hit the car again today to get the torque converter on, gearbox bolted up properly, prop shaft on, and heat shield, get the oil lines installed for the auto box, get the pan off the underside off it to give it a good clean out and check to see if the dents that are in the pan are detrimental to the running of the box, get it all back together and then get started on plugging everything back in tomorrow, but all its done is bloody rain today lol

Cant wait to see this on the road!!

Your not the only one, seems to be taking ages lol

keep running into silly problems, got the torque converter on this evening as it had stopped raining enough, slipped the dust plate back in, went to do the gearbox up to the gear lever and realised something was missing lol, so had to go rescue the little arm off the old gearbox, glad i saved the pin and bolty bit now.

ran the wires back up for the box, got a strange feeling i should of left the gearbox dipstick on when putting the box back on, as until the engine is level again, i cant feed it down to the box. but going to have to undo one of the gearbox bolts to bolt the dipstick back onto the gearbox.

Think i need to source some new auto box oil pipes, as the ones that came with the new box had kinked to the point it would restrict oil flow, and the ones i took off the old box seem to be the wrong shape :confused1:

so tomorrows list of things to do.

Get the top bolts back on the gearbox, get the Neg wire bolted back on the engine / gearbox, bolt gearbox to underside of car and connect the prop back up. feed the gearbox dip stick back down to the gearbox and bolt in place, see if i can sort something out with these gearbox oil cooler lines and get them connected, connect oil lines from engine oil pan back up to the front of the car.

Then its a case of lower turbo intake pipes back in place, plenum on, inter cooler pipes on, Vac piping routing and blanking off of the deleted bits.

getting close now :)

Hi Mate.

Regarding the dip stick - from memory, you may be able to slide the dipstick tube down the front of the bulkhead with a bit of twisting. If you have the front intercooler pipes off this will also allow you to rock the engine and gear box back slightly giving you the couple of mm you'll need to get it back in. Just hang off the back of the prop feed to get max leverage.

Good luck!

Might have to grab that gearbox oil pan off you, the one on the car doesnt even have a drain hole
