Hi, bit of an eventful day today and to cut long story short after a fews months back at home I'm flying the coop again. I'm only young, financially it was a great idea but in practice, hell no ha. Anyhow thats all sorted and I can't wait for the move but my only concern is I will be moving to Sheffield and the idea of keeping my Zed on the road in the city centre isn't one that fills me with glee. As such i'm wanting to make a bit of extra effort and fit some extra security toys and was hoping for some suggestions really. Just bought a quick release boss as I figure the idea of pinching a car without a steering wheel probably isnt the best but anything else anyone can suggest would be great.

Also I don't have the most faith in the alarm so if anyone could recommend a particular alarm and immobilizer that would be much appreciated too :)

Sadly you can only go so far with security. I kind of think if they are good enough they'll take whatever they want... Not trying to put a downer on things here as it's also my biggest worry.

I think taking the steering wheel is a good idea.

You might also want to consider a tracker.

Most cat 1 alarms/immobilisers are good enough to do the job but you can only go so far.

Can I suggest hiring a sniper to sit on a rooftop :)

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

Pull the main ignition fuse in the engine bay when you leave it, as sai above a good alarm or tracking device. But Sniper sounds good to me :)

On my old Sierra the guy who had it before me, fitted 2 cut out switches. One for the ignition and one for the fuel pump. You needed to have 2 isolator keys to start the damn thing - both built into the dash.

I had my Sierra broken into twice and both times its was still where I'd left it. On that basis, I would say they were pretty effective!

I still wouldn't keep your car on the road though - not a chance. If its not someone trying to nick it, it'll be keyed within a week through some moronic act of jealousy. Leave the car at ya mum & dads - a bike is all you need in Sheffield

A personal opinion, but I don't feel any alarm is worth it.

Get a decent immobilizer fitted and the removable steering wheel is a good idea :)

Thats as much as you can do TBH.

If someone wants it bad enough they will get it whatever, unfortunatley :(

Just put a note in the window saying how much it costs to fill up should scare most people away!!

Taking the steering wheel off is probably the best way, and sheffield is meant to be a crap place for car crime. Although i did leave my brand new punto in the centre once for 5 hours and forgot to lock the doors and it was still there when i got back - saying that, it was a punto.

I have an iTech tracker alarm thing which ive never fitted, really should have sold it, it rings you when ur cars nicked and you can turn the engine off using ur phone, talk to the little shits inside and lock them in which will give you enough time to hunt it down and beat them up.

Thanks for all the help, I agree entirely with what has been said and unfortunately we are limited as to what we can do because ultimately if someone want's it they will take it. Love the idea of a 16 year old scrot going to all that trouble though only to be stuck there stalling on the twin plate clutch :D

The other reservation aswell was the idea of it been keyed, its happened to my cars before but I think it would really gut me to see it happen to the zed.

Looking at reviews elsewhere I'll probably go with a Toad alarm (seems tried tested and rock solid) and then as Leo has suggested the isolator switches, sounds the best idea and should be cool for starting up ha.

More than likely though considering this I'll just leave the Zed at home. I was planning on biking around Sheffield and so getting rid of my daily run around as its mainly used two and from work, but sod it, I don't think I'd ever feel comfortable leaving the zed on the street whether it was safe or not. As zulley says Sheffield hasn't got the best rep at all.

Thanks for everyones help :)
