Driving along the other day with a mate in the car and he said that I had either a noisy wheel bearing or possibly diff.

Q1. How do I tell what causing the noise, jack up car and check for movement by rocking wheel?

Q2. How easy is it to fit new wheel bearing, do they need 'pressed' in? I don't really want to contemplate a new diff but, if so, how easy/difficult to fit a replacement?

Q3. I've seen bearings on 'ebay' circa the £60 mark, would these be ok or should I be looking to spend more for better quality?

As ever, all comments welcome from knowledgeable Zedders.

Q1. It is not as easy to just look for play at the hub.... my 300 droned only when turning at speed from one corner, with no play at the suspected wheel. Turned out to be a bearing in the end.

Q2. Not sure on this one matey, I got "jimmer" to do it.....

Q3. I would always go for genuine Nissan parts, just for piece-of-mind, albeit it will be a tad more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

HTH buddy.........

Alz.

The diff is fairly easy to do as it's just removing bolts really. Takes a while to do though. I've not heard of many diff problems, they're normally bullet proof as long as they have fluid in them they seem to go on for ever. I't is more likely that it's a wheel bearing that's gone but best get it checked out.
