i have a feeling that my front number plate is too small, and would like to get a sticker instead of the normal plastic job, are these illegal as well? or can they be used on the front?

also where do people get their jap spec sized rear number plate as mine also seems a bit small?

You can get the jap spec number plate at any motor factors, easier too if you give them the measurement of the rear plate.

I dont think the sticker type is illegal, there are a few car makes on the road that have this, but im not a fan of them personally.

Im sticking with my full size front number plate as i like to know i can drive around to my hearts content without fear of getting a fine for something so trivial lol

its not that bud, its the fact the one on the front is tiny, but stuck on

If i get a normal sized UK plastic plate, im going to have to make sure its stuck on good, or screw into my front bumper, would rather just stick it on instead to save having to worry about a big chunk of plastic interrupting my airflow lol

I have stuck my full size UK plate on with some number plate double sided tape stuff, very strong too.

I'm not 100% sure but I think stickers are illegal but will have a look and try and find where I read it

from what i gather, its illegal to the point it needs to comply with UK spec number plate regulations. IE it needs to be reflective, letter spacing and size, plus be visible.

from looking at my number plate again, it seems the letters are the correct distance and size, its just the number plate its self is small.

as im only intending on putting the one on the front of the vehicle, i cant really see as it makes much of a difference, after all at night the front isn't illuminated unless by on coming cars.

the rear how ever, needs to be reflective for the old speed cameras and ANPR.

I believe stick on plates are illegal.

The actual plate size is not an issue as far as I can make out, (can't find any sites listing a requirement for plate dimensions) just letter size/spacing.

I imagine so does the front for the same reasons, seen one of those police programs were ANPR picked up a car headed in the opposite direction.

Not sure how ANPR works, but doubt it needs the reflection capabilities ? that is just a standard requirement.

I'm by no means positive about this, but being an IT guy and more to the point, a programmer, I'd say it ANPR needs it to be reflective, basically for two reasons, but as I've said, both are assumptions:

1) The ANPR software will most likely pick up the reflection from the plate to identify it, as a plate

2) The ANPR software will most likely use an exposure type tool, the sort you would find in Photoshop, to make the reflective white bits flare out, really contrasting the black letters and numbers, to make OCR able to read the letters and turn it into a string and search the database etc.

I'm looking to replace the front number plate on the zed, possibly with a stick on job.

Does anybody have a definate answer on this ^^^^^?

My original front number plate was stuck on (not screwed) and has come off.

It's currently sat behind the front windscreen on the dash, so obviously it's only a matter of time before I get pulled

cheers

Still don't know a definite answer but after searching through a few sites I think as

long as the sticker or what ever you use to display the reg number conforms to the

dvla standard for size, shape and so on as it is reflective.

Although I can't find a definite answer either I have trailed through a few user forums on

The subject and the answer seems to be the same that anybody who's got pulled by the

coppers says its illegal and they say it's due to the camera systems they use not being

able to detect the reg plate and also because the plate itself is not properly horizontal.

I say *****cks to that as there must be a way to print off a sticker that can reflect light the

same way as a normal reg plate does.

Here's a few sites I've found on the legal size but nothing says about being a sticker .

Mine's the right size and I've got a completely legal set in the boot !

As Tony said, keep a totally legal set in your boot with sticky pads on.

Some interesting info there ^^^^^, so much so in fact that I've printed off a hard copy and now have it folded away in my glove box just in case PC Plod does descide that he 'knows' best and needs educating.

As the shortie' is an import, there's a certain amount of leway.

In order to minimise the restriction of air flow to the rad and oil cooler I've trimmed the number plate down to bare minimum, ensuring that all character dimensions/spacings/margins etc are adhered to, to the letter.

This is how the plate currently looks

yer ramps are squint mate ;)

yer ramps are squint mate ;)

Yeah, I got hacked off with reversing back and forth, and having the passenger side ramp continuously slipping forward, that in the end I thought balls to it

I only wanted a bit of elevation at the front anyway, so that I could fit my Koyo rad

job done
