tow the van and show that:nelson:

you can tow a manual no problems. On an a frame, quite regularly, i wouldnt.

what do twin axle trailers go for secondhand?

yes but if the weight of the car your towing exceeds the max tow weight of the car/van your driving then you can get in to some bad doo doo if you get pull by the fuzz

when it comes to traillors or dollys then you have to take that in to account with the weight of the car your putting on it ..

some one correct me if i'm wrong

BIG ooopsie By me...... I meant can't tow an auto !

You can tow an auto too, just make sure it was in neutral when you switched the engine off, it's not the best, but it's how the council tow an auto away when it's illegally parked.

I wouldn't do that for more than a couple of miles, i would disconnect the propshaft if going any further...

How can they do that - make sure the car is in neutral that is?

Surely they would have to illegally break in and put the selector in neutral? And what about those cars (like Mercs) where you cannot remove the key unless the car is in park....?

Sounds like they would end up damaging the car whatever way they tried....!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

My mate towed mine from Wakefield to Somerset with an astra diesel (shagged out) on an a frame mad get !!!

yeah .. i'm not saying my van wouldnt pull it but its more of the getting dun by the fuzz due to exceeding the tow weight

with the 300 having a dead weight of 1580

this means most cars/vans have a towing weight of around 600>700 non braked and 1000>1200 Braked ( trailored )

so its not just a little over weight its all most twice as much as with a A frame its classed as None Braked Towing

How can they do that - make sure the car is in neutral that is?

Yeah, if a car is in a tow away zone (For the council at least) then they have a policeman present with a warrant to break into the car, can be issued by an inspector or something and is just a formality, then they get the tow truck driver (Ex-Car thief basically) to break into the car cleanly without damaging it (Although I believe if they do damage it, it's tough shit anyway, they're simply required by law to try not to damage it).

I know all this, because one day in NZ I had borrowed my mother-in-laws Nissan Bluebird Auto to go to work in and had parked it legally, outside a complete ****s house, who was known for getting cars towed I later found out, they broke in without damaging it, somehow faked the ignition to put the car in neutral, towed it away and when I went to pick it up, it was parked in Neutral, with the handbrake on and the door unlocked, kinda scary tbh if you ask me.
