people love it or hate it! I love my iphone & now I am out of contract am hanging on for the new iphone 5 to come out :hyper:

Apple like to keep specs undercover until about 5 mins before release date so there is lots of speculation - what do you think/hope it will have?!

Things I have read are:

dual core processor from ipad2

slightly bigger screen

8 meg camera with better flash

NFC built in for a virtual wallet

64gig version

loads of more obscure predictions also!

I need a release date soon LOL!! :hammer:

Ian with the greatest respect, your first post in this thread was about jail breaking it, you can't comment on it not being restrictive and not finding anything that won't let you use it how you want to, because you've already opened it up to do whatever you want. I'm not denying that the phone hardware is good quality, it's made by Samsung after all (Yeah I know, the foxconn thing too, but still), just with shit software, unless you break it open, which you shouldn't have to do.

Don't panic Jaikai, I'm smiling behind the keyboard as always, yes I hate Apple, yes with a passion, but I'm happy about that fact

Another problem with Apple, I tried to subtly point out by quoting my friend saying that cloud was made by Apple, is that Apple do things second hand, always, I don't think it's ever actually done anything first hand in it's existence as a company, yet almost everything they do, because of the way they market it, everyone thinks they came up with it. Apple is not about innovation, at all! Apple is all about capitalisation on other peoples ideas, then trying to patent them before the original inventor can, just because they have more money and resources to do so. Same reason I will not have an iPod, the portable MP3 player was out WAY before the iPod and it was better!

I personally do not like Apple one bit, as you may be able to tell, however, I am an Apple Engineer, I used to repair them for a living, configure them on networks etc. I can install and run an Apple Only Corporate Network, including making use of Apples XServe Server products, the reason I do not like them, has more to do with just how poor and how insecure and how stolen their software is than anything else, I developed my dislike for them over many years of dealing with their products, then reading the tech news of late and joining an American tech company who swaps engineers with Apple on a bi-monthly basis (i.e. we steal one of their engineers, they, or more usually Google or Facebook steals one of ours, etc.) I've discovered that not only is their software of very poor quality (By programming and security standards), but that they are also a company completely without morales, yet the world wants to put it's trust in them for a few shiny devices that someone else invented, that someone else made, that Steve Jobbs stuck a crapple on the side of.

All things being equal, I personally prefer Android to iOS, it's more flowing, it's far more user friendly and far more open and way less restrictive. If someone genuinely prefers the iPhone then that's fine, but I doubt anyone who does has really given an Android phone a proper spin, or at least not one with any guts. When I got my Galaxy S around December last year, it had outsold the iPhone extortionately, despite not being well marketed, despite not being any cheaper, despite not looking much different and despite the iPhone being available for a far longer period of time, you tell me which device people genuinely found better in their hand, and which one was bought because of marketing propoganda :D

No, pretty much everything Vodka said is available without Jailbreaking. Perhaps with the exception of Flash...thats a popular issue for iphone haters to bring up but in fact I have never had an issue with no flash when visting any website on the iPhone, and I use it a LOT for browsing.

oh, and Jailbreaking (rooting) is also very popular with Android users

As for copying......The galaxy S is clearly a cheap plastic immatation of the iphone 3gs, while the S2 is a larger cheaper plastic version of the iPhone 4.

I have absolutely nothing against the Android OS, I'd happily have a iPhone 4 with Android OS (hmmm....theres an idea) or the Apple iOS I dont mind either way, the biggest differnece for me is the Phone hardware themselves (Im referring to design/materials/build....not spec). Im fussy about quality and others just dont have what it takes for me.

in respect of what you said, before i found out about jailbreaking, i could still use it how i wanted, more than i could my HTC touch HD at the time.

Jailbreaking it is fun as it opens up a lot of other fun functions. yes admittedly a lot of phones had them functions to start with, but nothing that was going to stop the phone from working how it was intended. i still used it fine for 3 months and didnt even notice the restrictions.

Even though my phone is jailbroken now, the only upside its given me is the ability to use music from my itunes library as a ring tone and flash, which to be honest for just 2 extra functions is hardly "really restrictive"

You could always have a custom ring tone, as long as you purchased it from the itunes store, so again apart from apple restricting you to having purchased it, its hardly very restrictive.

Not all people like a custom ring tone and with the audience the iphone was aimed at, i suppose it made sense that someone didn't have drum and bass blaring out in a board meeting if you forgot to turn your phone to silent lol

Flash, isnt a major thing, everything website i visit, including what i have on my PC favorites, doesnt use flash so no loss there to me either.

the phone is just great, super fast, super responsive, bright (can read the screen with 32degrees of sunshine on it with the brightness turned up) if you close the apps that are running in multitask in the background the battery lasts just as long as any other smart phone on the market.

sorry mate, the only phone ill upgrade my iphone to, is another iphone.

You can have free custom ring tones as standard without Jailbreaking, you can convert any of your music tracks to ringtones using iTunes - its not as straightforward as I'd like, but there are even Standard Apps from the Appstore for converting your music to ringtones.

see how much that interfeared with my use of the iphone, didnt even know that lol

it used to be you could only have a custom ringtone if you had purchased it from the itunes store, but then ive only ever had one ring tone on my iphone, at least i know its ringing then

I have custom ringtones without jailbreaking.

In fact I am not really sure what jailbreaking exactly is LOL! :blushing:

I do know that I have not found one thing that I cant do on my phone so whatever it is I dont need to do it LOL!!!

WTF do you need it for & what am I missing out on by not having mine jailbroken?!!? :detective:

Would just like to add that the iphone OS is absolutly amazing to be honest, how you say its complicated to work is beyond me, its simple as hell.

also ive never had my iphone crash on me, unlike my mates galaxy S where he had to keep resetting the phone when it locked up on him.

also ive never known anyone to brick there iphone to the point they could not recover it.

WTF do you need it for & what am I missing out on by not having mine jailbroken?!!? :detective:

Nothing, Apple have made it so you cant do something that 99.99% of people want or need to do. But it's like anything, you tell someone they cant do something and it makes them want to do it.

Never had an iphone, but the ipad is an awesome piece of kit, phone wise ive 3 android phones at home,an old hero, which wil be given to my dad when he's had enough of the last phone i gave him, lol.

upgraded to a motorola atrix recently which is my everyday phone, has a very fast dual core processor, but something about it just isnt quite right,,but the best phone i have is my hd desire,it just runs so smooth,i use this with a internet only sim card for when im out and about,at home its basically used as a media streamer, and with its 4.3 inch screen is good for being used as a mini tablet.

Iphone 4 rocks! End of.

I know a microsoft engineer who hate Microsoft/windows etc. He runs 3 macs and two iphones lol!!!

Yes Apple are good at marketing and why shouldn't they be. So are Microsoft. My sister works for Microsoft and they are in no position to be given any moral high ground.

I have a MacBook Pro and a work PC. The MacBook Pro never puts a foot wrong and I even had windows installed on it for a while but never used it.

The windows O/S just seems to be in a constant state on panic!!!!!! Always banging on about the latest security checks and updates - does my bloody head in!!!

Mac just gets on with it - simple. That's why a lot of people cough up the extra cash and go Mac.

I chose a Mac for the above reason (and after having an Iphone 3 for a year) but also because of the engineering and build quality. Buy cheap pay twice has never been so true.

Would love someone to show me how good their smart phone is with out using the phrase " oh no, hang on a minute, it doesn't seem to want to do that" lol!

Only thing I don't like is the Itunes situation but that can be gotten around!!

I have to agree with andy, having just sold my Mac Pro for £1300 to buy a modern gaming pc i find i'm leaning towards turning it into a hackintosh and putting OSx Lion on a separate hard drive to boot on.

The constant updates, virus scans, etc that you need to do just make it secure are hilarious and the incompatibility of certain programs in 64bit is frustrating.

The iphone interface is so natural and smooth, having tried both android and iOS on numerous phones i still think apple have the leads in terms of their operating system.

A testament to this fact is watching my dad use an ipad he bought recently. If he can use that without messing up once then that must be pretty good, he can't stop messing around with it and the look of joy on his face when he discovers a new feature is just magic :)

Half the fun of iOS is finding little features they've added that make things so much simpler

I'm still on iPhone 3Gs and it's still a brilliant brilliant phone!

has anyone actually made an on topic reply yet??!!? :tt2:

Well, Baaaaa Baaaaa Baaaaa, I'm still not buying an iPhone.

Let me just say, I'm not a Windows fan, I've been a Windows Engineer, an Apple Engineer, a Linux Engineer, a Cisco Engineer, a Unix Engineer, a Software Engineer (i.e. I wrote it, rather than fixing it) and now I'm a cloud engineer. You will not find me using any OS on a computer other than Linux, I gave the iPhone a chance on each revision, by borrowing friends iPhones for a day etc. and every time, I've hated it beyond belief! Perhaps it's the same as when I go into a church and I start to feel like I'm sizzling :D (Power of suggestion anyone?) But I cannot see why on earth anyone thinks that the iPhone is better made than the Galaxy S, sure, apparently if you apply a weight of between 11 - 19 stone (I have no idea what you weigh lol) against one whilst it's also pressed up against a wall it'll snap, but then I don't think it's designed to be a stress bar is it?

My Galaxy S has been in my jeans pocket whilst working on and under the Z, whilst unloading vans and carrying big heavy things, it was in my front jean pocket the entire time whilst we were emptying and re-filling the garage on Sunday, it's dropped out of my pocket countless times when getting into the car, or sitting down at a table, etc. I've sat on it (I weigh somewhere between 16 and 18 stone), stood on it, dropped it, leant on it, etc. and yet I'm still on my first one, no cracks in the screen, still works perfectly, first time, every time.

Sounds like i need to come around and sort your gaming PC out, mine runs flawlessly, with out all the "update, virus scan" shenanigans you are on about.

To be honest if you dont visit porn sites, or only decent ones, your not going to be risking a virus any time soon, windows 7 and even vista are pretty bloody good at filtering out the wrong programs getting onto your system.

In the year ive been running 7 and the 3 years i was running vista, i never had a virus as never went to porn sites, i don't run virus software now as there really isnt any point.

If you run 2 harddrives, one specifically for the OS and the other for games / programs / all other files. in the likely event you do get something that cocks your system up, its easier and you don't loose all your files.

Also, what issues are you having running 64bit programs? im yet to encounter any that have had 64bit compatibility issues?

i can even still run a lot of the dos games out there on my windows 7 machine with dos box, and never had a problem running any of the windows xp games or windows 98 games. or programs for that matter.

and paulC, nope not sure any one has lol

want to donate a galaxy S to my daughter and son? if it then lasts longer than my iphone did, ill consider that you might have a valid arguement, if it also then fixes just as easily.

My iphone has been thrown against the ground where the touch screen was smashed, yet it still worked, i then fixed it and broke the LCD, so replaced that, 2 weeks later my daughter decided it looked good upside down in a pool of juice where after drying it out and having to replace the touch screen and digitizer (for just £20 i might add) it was then working flawlessly again, then a day after my son bit into the damn thing after finding my hiding spot and smashed the digitizer again, again £5 part later, the iphone was fixed.

The only issue i have after all that, is I accidentally snapped the connector for the earpiece, so i have to put it on loud speaker or use my hands free kit.

But the iphone still works perfectly other wise.

It has to be one of the most robust phones ive ever used. the circuit board inside (going by my kids) is bomb proof.

And although the Digitizer has been smashed a few times, its not that its fragile, its just my kids didn't know how to be soft and gentle with it at the time.

It hasn't been smashed in about 7 months now or drowned lol

My daughter now uses it as a educational tool and knows how to use it and shes only 3 years old. and the best thing about the iphone is. there is nothing she can do to it by using it, thats going to feck it up.

LOL @ your kids mate, they clearly don't like Crapple either, they were trying to tell you something :D

TBH I wasn't saying the iPhone was weak, I was rebutting a comment about the Galaxy S being weak.

i know, my kids are product testers mate. has nothing against hating apple, my little girl loves my iphone.

They just know how to test things to destruction

Fact of the matter is that they are considerably weaker than the iphone, or mine is anyway. I weigh around 14 stone, as I said i lent against a wooden fence and it cracked, ive launched the iphone so many times and its had 10 or 20x the use and has shrugged it al of.

Maybe you are more delicate than me but but you cannot say that a galaxy s is as strong as an iphone, for a start the galaxy is cheaply made with thin plastic on the back and has creaked since new. The iphone is strong and rigid.
