What Could it Be?

Hi peeps, need a bit of help identifying a strange extendable, telescopic type aerial thingy with some kind of green light at the tip? Messing about this afternoon trying to fix my eratic idling again on my 91 Z TT (jap) and as you do, started to remove the n/s indicator lens ( dont ask!), anyway, attached to the front n/s fog light, inside the spoiler, was this contraption looking a bit broken on the telescopic shaft bit where it joins the motor body and a black and white wire hanging by fresh air. It was also disconnected so pushed the two block connecters together and it started to extend to about 12 inches???? If it was connected to the fog bracket the way it was, then i assume it couldn't extend anyway as it would be pushing against the indicator lens. Can't work out what the green light bit does either.... thought it might be some airbag/crash sensor, but i don't have an airbag system. There is a part number on it ...45324 907063, don't really want to talk to Nissan, as they will probably try and charge me £25 for a part enquiry on an import!! Any info would be much appreciated.:

P.S. Thanks to AndyP for curing my boot rattle problem the other day biggrin.gif

Sorry Craig, you'll have to enlighten me as I'm mucho confuzo?? How does that thing help with parking??

when it is extended, you can easily see where the front of your car is....

you dont have to guess where your bumper finishes if you cant see it

consider that, in tokyo, you need proof of a big enough parking space before you can even buy a car.....

so parking spaces are likely to be a little tight... wink.gif

push two connectors together and extends to about 12 inches?

marital aid, surely (I wish - or more probably, the missus does)

It extends when you push the switch to the side of your clock.

Are you going to remove yours? I'll pay a bit of wonga for one of these things, as mine has a fault on the green LED.

Also i could do with the switch if you've got it.

the offer is there! smile.gif

Ben.

Managed to get it working on the extending/retracting side, but wasn't sure whether the green light was meant to flash or not? Also this black & white striped wire is hanging about with some kind of plate connector on it. Think it may be an earth lead, but not sure if it goes into the motor body or attaches elsewhere. And just to make life really complicated, i'm also not sure in which direction its meant to extend, either towards the radiator or towards the n/s indicator lens. I Think it was just thrown back in there when it was broken and disconnected! More help required please.

Thanks

sorry, didnt realise it wasnt mounted into the bumper, didnt read thoroughly....

the ones i have seen with this have it mounted on the front bumper, and it extends upwards out of the bumper so you can see it from inside the car

Probably my powers of description are poor, but it is mounted inside the bumper attached to a bracket that in turn attaches to another bracket which joins to the rear metal back plate of the n/s front fog light. Seems the only way it can go and extend is horizontally, either towards a small gap behind the bumper pointing towards the air filters/radiator, or, towards the inside of the n/s indicator, although this way it wouldn't be able to extend very far before hitting the back of the lens. If it flashes, does it do it constantly when it's activated by the switch, or only when it gets close to another vehicle? Sorry to be a pain in the arse, but i really cant get my head round this one!! If i've got a gadget, then i like it to work... somehow!!!

Thanks again
