up to and including 94 they used the VG30DETT, until it was outlawed so they changed to the VH V8 for 1995.

That's an interesting bit of zed history right there, cheers bud :thumbup1:

Motorsport (rally) played a big part in the success of the Impreza and EVO, but i dont believe motorsport has been a big factor in the popularity of the GTR or the lack of popularity of the 300zx in the UK.

Programs like Top gears review of the GTR no doubt had a big impact, and the F&F films do seem to of had a significant impact for the Supra and Rx7.

Ironically, The first F&F film was actually based on a guy in the states that used to street race his 300zx, but for some reason they opted for differnet cars in the film.

The 300zx is heavily underrated, compared to its mainstream competitors. If you ask most car enthusiasts about the 300zx their opinion is that its an old, overweight, unreliable and expensive to maintain tourer. The way it drives and Its overall performance and dynamics as a sports car are very undervalued/unrecognised.

Plus there was a lot of snobbery around the word "Nissan" in the UK at the time. This is what killed it of early here.

On the other hand, if you have no intention of selling your zed, then current zed prices are by and large irrelevent, though to be fair I think prices have been creeping back up very slowly over the past few months.

When Marty (Gonzo12c) was looking on behalf of his mate the other week, there were only one or two TT manual LWB that could be had for his £2,500 budget.

Not sure what the average sale price of a zed is these days but I'd guess around the £3500 mark for a tidy example.

just to let you know gentlemen , in europe (whatever country u will pick up) z32 are still very expensive to buy ..

i bought my zed in 2005 or so and payed 250000 czech crona and thats aproxx 8000 pounds !!

and my ride was one battered not running well zed ..

All very interesting stuff in the last few posts, I do think the racing thing did it for the GTR though, the R32 went all over the world, to Bathhurst in Australia even, trouncing the V8s they love so dearly etc. It wasn't in the original F&F film either, only an R33 GTS-T was in it, in the way of skylines. Also I was in GTROC long before the second film came out and R34s were very much popular before the film.

Yowser serious question, you say you don't think racing is what made the GTR popular, but you don't say what you think did? I'm curious to know? You generally have more insight into the historical and factual than we do, I'm only guessing based on what I know.

I think I see Z prices climbing again, and maybe it's just because I'm in this club, but I think they seem to be getting more popular and more and more people are finding out about them.

You're right about OZ mate, NZ as well by all accounts. A couple of the lads that I worked with are kiwi's and all very much into their V8s, one bought himself a VXR8 recently but conceeded that it got trounced by a GTR on his way back from his mrs house. 'Godzilla' (the original R32) is still idolised by many as a true legend. He took my LWB for a spin a while back now and complimented it on its power though said it just lacked something but didn't know what? Zed prices are going up but it does seem to take a while to sell

Yeah I lived in NZ for a few years, all they do is rotary and V8, the odd GTR floats around, but they can't import them any more because of the import laws changing there constantly. Same rules apply to Z's, you just can't import them in NZ anymore :(
