simply put, not as well known mate.

skylines, supra, scoobies, keep there price due to being in a lot of films so they get a good following in the media spotlight, thus people buy them.

same as sales of things going up when a celeb is seen with a certain product.

yea i see what your saying

bit sad really as the Z imho beats most other jap cars in near every aspect

thats 1 reason i never sold up, i could never get a similar calliber car for the price of a Z

people need educated

i know what your saying there, just keep hold of one when you find the right one, eventually the price will go up, as the rest fall to bits lol

i think the look is stunning, ill be keeping mine now ive found this one.

Im learning how to weld as well thanks to kaza steve, so will be doing my own welding work once i get it up to a good standard.

think it will be a good investment eventually once its all running right, and with the correct maintenance.

the only thing is, in this country, the 300zx isn't really that well known, in the US it holds its value a lot more, seems to be the same in Australia they tend to be the same as the UK from what ive seen. if you work out the AUD in comparison to the GBP, its about the same to be honest.

There's also the percieved higher running costs of the 300zx - a v6 twin turbo generally means 2 of everything......

.....not to mention that with Supras, Skylines and Scoobies etc; it's probably cheaper to up the power than with the ZX.

I can see the appeal of the Skyline and Supra, but Scoobs and Evos have never done it for me. I prefer a GT coupe, rather than a saloon car with a big spoiler nailed to it.....

Richard:biggrin:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Having owned three of the above, the Skyline (The GTR at least) is just a different animal to anything I've EVER driven, the Supra (MkIII but have driven the MkIV and there wasn't much difference in the drive) was most like the Z tbh, very sleek to drive, proper coupe style etc. the Scoobies are just plain fun, they are scrambler cars, crap on long straight roads, but get them on twisties and OMG you couldn't have more fun if you had 3 super models, bouncing up and down in front of you, offering you whatever you wanted all week long!

They're so damn cheap to buy, cos they're so freakin expensive to own.

I've spent twice what I paid for the car on keeping it on the road so far.. and that will tripple once I get the engine finished.. and quadruple once the body work gets done.

Most of them are old dogs now too, not many good examples about.

surely the same story with any other jap car of similar age tho? (imports of course) so still dosent justify it to me

and after owning imprezas/evos for the last 8 years the zed "to me" at least is anything but expensive to own and mentain, im saving a fortune running the zed compared to when i owned the 2 mentioned above

i think an old z costs more to run and maintain compared to a impreza of the same age?

no in my experience sandy...had 7 classics and the zed is a walk in the park in comparison, alot cheaper on the juice

a standard z is less thirsty than a standard classic scoob?

Scoobies are very thirsty believe it or not. Ours was super thirsty and the only mods were an air filter and an exhaust. The Z is remarkably economical for what it is to be honest. I've had cars that were far thirstier, whilst being much slower and less powerful.

from my experience yea... think of it its a 2litre turbo, ur always high-ish up the rev range.... i was 10-15 quid a day going from hamilton-motherwell

Does anybody have a rough idea what the top $ paid in the UK over the last few years for a top drawer modified Z32 was?

I'm sure I saw one a few years back (around 2007 I think) claiming 900 brake and was up for £10k-£15k (though I'm not 100% on that). I think it was somewhere around the £15k figure anyway

now compare that to the fairly common cost of a similar aged top drawer GTR which can easily demand a £18k-£25k+ price tag as the norm'

maybe it's partly due to less big named builders in Japan, Top Secret, Garage Saurus etc building comparable profile zed cars.....and to be fair if the demand isn't there then they aren't likely to I suppose.

What have we had so far? the JUN/Blitz zed of Bonneville fame and the Pentroof zed, maybe a few more but nowhere near as many legendary cars as the Top Secret Supra, Rocket Ronnies R33, all of Tweenie Rob's creations, JUN super lemon R33 GTR etc, etc

I think that if a company like Rocky Auto of Japan started building monster spec Z32's as well as the usual 240z's then the value of the average Z32 may increase over time, but as it stands I suppose the general oppinion of Joe public who's in the market for a car is something along the lines of "why spend 'X' amount of money on a zed and modify it to the spec of an average GTR when you could just buy a GTR in the first place already built to spec"

A couple of TOTB showdowns as the underdog, a 7 second Z32 on the drag strip and a few top spec zed drifters and I reckon we might stand a chance on clawing back a small amount of our zed investments

just my 2p worth

Agreed on most counts, but tbh I think the film industry and rally/track industry has more to do with a lot of it. Supras, were no where near as popular before F&F for example, the GTR trounced everything, in every race series it entered and was nicknamed Godzilla! RX7's also became really popular after F&F and Scoobies and Evos made a name for themselves on the Rally Circuit, what did the Z do really? I may be wrong, but it seems to me, it was always just a fast road car, intended as a GT, maybe it raced I don't know, but I never heard about it winning against all the odds etc. Did anyone else?

That's true, the exposure from F&F did a lot for the popularity of several motors, maybe the zed is just destined to be 'one of the other options'

unless........

high profile bank job (Italian job stylee) :2guns:, a silver zed TT as a gettaway car, get all the silver zeds in the UK together to act as decoys....we'd make a fortune (well enough to maintain a zed for 6 months or so) and raise the profile of the zed

FYI - Some very noteworthy motorsport achievements.

The z32 dominated the IMSA GT Championship’s in its GTO and GTS categories.

2x IMSA GTS Driving Championships

2x IMSA GTS Manufacturer's Championships

1994 GTS Winner of le mans 24hr

1994 Winner of 24hrs Daytona

1995 Winner of Sebring 12hrs

In fact it was so quick they ended up outlawing the VG30DETT engine.

Also, it still hold the E/BMS class World land speed record of of 260.87 mph , a record that has never been beaten.

That's awesome! I wonder why I never heard of all those achievements then when I've heard of the GTRs and the Subarus etc. Doesn't really surprise me that it did well in endurance racing though.

Absolutely and it's all good and obviously did wonders for the zeds popularity in the US market, the trouble that I can see is this, despite all of its achievements (shown above) it was effectively eclipsed at the time by the Skyline GTR (29 wins from 29 starts in Japan or something like that), so I've always assumed that the Bonneville record is really the big one for us; though a Supra came very, very close not too long back if I recall

Not sure how much of the Z32 as we know it can be related to the machines that achieved all of the above either

and again, I don't know so just playing devils advocate before I get shot down in flames, but did it actually run a VG30DETT at Le Mans and IMSA or was it a similar sketch to the R35's in GT1 today where they run a larger NA lump from a different vehicle?

We'll get there I'm sure, maybe a multi millionaire zed lover will push for Bonneville part 2!!

up to and including 94 they used the VG30DETT, until it was outlawed so they changed to the VH V8 for 1995.
